\n Elon Musk sowed doubts about the accuracy of coronavirus tests on Friday \u2014 just hours after tweeting that he took four rapid tests with conflicting results.<\/p>\n

The Tesla boss and fifth-richest man in the world had initially tweeted Thursday night that \u201cSomething extremely bogus is going on\u201d regarding COVID-19 testing. \u201cTwo tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Media<\/a> outlets quickly jumped on Musk\u2019s tweets with stories highlighting his positive diagnosis \u2014 provoking the prickly tech entrepreneur to protest.<\/p>\n

\u201cTechnically, I tested positive, then negative twice, then positive again, so \u2018Elon Musk Tests Negative for Covid\u2019 is an equally correct title,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n

Musk said he took the \u201crapid antigen test from BD,\u201d likely referring to medical-supplies giant Becton Dickinson,<\/b> and called it \u201cabout as useful as flipping a coin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it\u2019s happ<\/a>ening to me, it\u2019s happening to others,\u201d he said in a\u00a0follow-up tweet<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m getting PCR tests from separate labs. Results will take about 24 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

One Twitter user quipped that \u201crevenues from tests are likely not bogus & very consistent,\u201d prompting Musk to reply \u201cExactly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Musk had initially tweeted that his symptoms were \u201cnothing unusual\u201d and those \u201cof a typical cold,\u201d he gave more detail Friday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cMild sniffles & cough & slight fever past few days,\u201d he told one Twitter user who asked how he was feeling. \u201cRight now, no symptoms, although I did take NyQuil.\u201d<\/p>\n

The billionaire chief executive has previously downplayed the seriousness of the pandemic,\u00a0calling it \u201cdumb\u201d in early March. Musk also railed against California\u2019s coronavirus lockdown\u00a0in late spring, calling it \u201cfascist\u201d and saying the government was\u00a0\u201cforcibly imprisoning people in their homes against all their constitutional rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a May appearance on the popular Joe Rogan podcast, Musk called the probability of death from the virus \u201cextremely low,\u201d adding that \u201cit\u2019s almost like people really wanted a pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the mortality rate is much less than what say the World Health Organization said it was,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s much, much less. It\u2019s like probably at least an order of magnitude less.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
