\n Just a week after topping the $15,000 mark for the first time in three years, bitcoin has zoomed past $16,000.<\/p>\n

The cryptocurrency\u2019s rally has brought it back to a valuation that it hasn\u2019t seen since January 2018, with one digital token worth $16,095.31 late Thursday morning. It is now less than $400 shy of its all-time high of $19,891.99 which it reached just before Christmas 2017.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin\u2019s value is up roughly 11 percent in the past week, and more than 35 percent since early October.<\/p>\n

The world\u2019s best-known cryptocurrency has seen its price climb in recent weeks after PayPal announced that it would allow its customers to buy and sell bitcoin on its platform.<\/p>\n

JPMorgan analysts last month also said that the value of bitcoin could \u201cdouble or triple<\/a>\u201d as it increasingly becomes a more attractive \u201calternative\u201d currency to gold.<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> bolstered long-standing expectations that bitcoin and its rivals could become a more viable form of payment, a goal that has been elusive.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
