Producer Michael Bay<\/strong>\u2018s pandemic thriller\u00a0Songbird<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/em>made headlines for being the first major film to be made during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Los Angeles. Then it made headlines again with reports that the production was\u00a0not following COVID safety protocols. And yet again,\u00a0Songbird<\/em> made headlines for the negative online buzz around its trailer, which showed the films \u2014 let\u2019s say ill-advised \u2014 apocalyptic vision of the pandemic. But in perhaps the most positive piece of news<\/a>, and for those nervous about going to see movies<\/a> amid surging COVID-19 cases,\u00a0Songbird<\/em> has set its VOD release for this December.<\/p>\n

Soon you too can see this irresponsible movie responsibly, with the coming premium video on-demand (PVOD) release of\u00a0Songbird<\/em>, which STX Entertainment has set for December 11, 2020<\/strong>. The film will be available for $19.99 for a 48-hour rental on all transactional platforms, according to an announcement by Adam Fogelson, chairman, STXfilms Motion Picture Group.
\n\u201cThe pandemic has affected every aspect of our business, from production to release, but\u00a0Songbird<\/i>\u00a0demonstrates that a nimble studio like STX can find effective and profitable ways to make their movies work, as we have similarly with\u00a0Greenland<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0My Spy<\/i>\u00a0during these challenging times,\u201d Fogelson said. \u201cThe show must go on.\u00a0Songbird<\/i>\u00a0is a thrilling movie that will speak to audiences in this moment as it keeps them on the edge of their seats.\u201d<\/p>\n

Directed by Adam Mason<\/strong> (Into the Dark<\/i>), who also wrote the script<\/a> with Simon Boyes<\/strong> (Misconduct<\/i>), the movie stars\u00a0KJ Apa<\/strong> (Riverdale<\/em>) as a courier who is immune to the deadly\u00a0COVID-23 virus, and attempts to save his girlfriend Sara\u00a0(Sofia Carson) from being imprisoned in a quarantine camp.\u00a0The movie also stars \u201cBradley Whitford<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Demi Moore<\/strong>\u00a0as a wealthy couple who may hold the key to Nico\u2019s mission;\u00a0Alexandra Daddario<\/strong>\u00a0as a singer enmeshed in a messy and forbidden affair;\u00a0Paul Walter Hauser<\/strong>\u00a0as a disabled veteran whose best friend \u2013 a drone named Max \u2013 is his eyes and ears to a world that has left him behind;\u00a0Craig Robinson<\/strong>\u00a0as Nico\u2019s boss; and\u00a0Peter Stormare<\/strong>\u00a0as the corrupt head of the city\u2019s \u2018sanitation\u2019 department, which seizes those infected and transports them to the Q-Zone.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the terrifying thriller\u00a0Songbird<\/em>, the COVID-23 virus has mutated and the world is in its fourth year of lockdown. Infected Americans are ripped from their homes and forced into quarantine camps known as Q-Zones, from which there is no escape, as a few brave souls fight back against the forces of oppression. Amid this dystopian landscape, a fearless courier, Nico (KJ Apa), who\u2019s immune to the deadly pathogen, finds hope and love with Sara (Sofia Carson), though her lockdown prohibits them from physical contact. When Sara is believed to have become infected, Nico races desperately across the barren streets of Los Angeles in search of the only thing that can save her from imprisonment \u2026or worse.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
