\n Elon Musk\u2019s complaints about coronavirus testing have earned him a new nickname \u2014 and a complimentary hairdo to go with it.<\/p>\n

The billionaire SpaceX CEO was blasted with the moniker \u201cSpace Karen\u201d on Twitter<\/a> following a string of tweets he fired off last week that casted doubt on the accuracy of COVID-19 tests.<\/p>\n

Musk had told his 30 million followers that something \u201cextremely bogus\u201d was afoot when he received mixed results from tests he had taken, prompting Twitter user Emma Bell, whose profile says she is doing postdoctoral work in Canada, to come to the defense of the tests by mocking Musk.<\/p>\n

\u201cRapid antigen tests trade sensitivity for speed. They return a result in <30 minutes, but can only detect COVID-19 when you\u2019re absolutely riddled with it,\u201d Bell wrote. \u201cWhat\u2019s bogus is that Space Karen didn\u2019t read up on the test before complaining to his millions of followers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bell\u2019s tweet has racked up more than 60,000 likes since Saturday, and even inspired artwork of Musk with a stereotypical \u201cKaren\u201d haircut \u2014 a Kate Gosselin-style bob with blond highlights. The name Karen has become a go-to putdown for middle-aged white women who loudly complain about seemingly minor things in public, often asking to \u201cspeak to the manager.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk has since tweeted that he \u201cmost likely\u201d has a moderate case of the virus.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy symptoms are that of a minor cold, which is no surprise, since a coronavirus is a type of cold,\u201d he posted.<\/p>\n

The 49-yer-old billionaire chief executive is no stranger to downplaying the seriousness of the pandemic, calling it \u201cdumb\u201d in early March. Musk also railed against California\u2019s coronavirus lockdown\u00a0in late spring, calling it \u201cfascist\u201d and saying the government was\u00a0\u201cforcibly imprisoning people in their homes against all their constitutional rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a May app<\/a>earance on the popular Joe Rogan podcast, Musk called the probability of death from the virus \u201cextremely low,\u201d adding that \u201cit\u2019s almost like people really wanted a pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the mortality rate is much less than what say the World Health Organization said it was,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s much, much less. It\u2019s like probably at least an order of magnitude less.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
