The House of Commons <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HoCChamber\/status\/1328430632670728193\">unanimously passed a motion<\/a> to congratulate Biden and his running mate, <strong>Kamala Harris<\/strong>. They invited both to visit Parliament. And they invited Biden to address Parliament. The formalized longing for a presidential address might be an effort to simply out-hustle the other front-runners for First Foreign Visit in Mexico City. Back in 2001, <strong>George W. Bush<\/strong> famously \u201csnubbed\u201d Canada by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.macleans.ca\/article\/2001\/2\/12\/a-texan-looks-south\">heading to Mexico first<\/a>. <strong>Barack Obama<\/strong> picked Ottawa (where cookies still remember).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bill Morneau<\/strong> has a new gig. No, not the fancy Paris posting as secretary-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. <strong>Yale University<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/jackson.yale.edu\/news\/bill-morneau-appointed-senior-fellow\/\">appointed Morneau<\/a> as a senior fellow at its Jackson Institute. The former federal FinMin will teach \u201ca graduate course on global economic policymaking during the Spring 2021 semester.\u201d Say what you will about his untimely\u2014or timely?\u2014exit from Justin Trudeau\u2019s cabinet, but Prof. Morneau knows more than anyone else in Canada about the <strong>possibilities and pratfalls<\/strong> of pandemic policy. Fingers crossed he shreds his old talking points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hot mic alert:<\/strong> This young Parliament has a new contender for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MichelleRempel\/status\/1328444581692620800\"><strong>most cringeworthy moment<\/strong><\/a>. During a vote in the Commons, Speaker <strong>Anthony Rota<\/strong> called on indie MP\u00a0<strong>Jody Wilson-Raybould<\/strong>. But\u00a0<strong>Maryam Monsef<\/strong>, the\u00a0gender equality minister, hadn\u2019t muted herself. And she was caught saying the following: \u201cThe question they\u2019re going to ask me\u2026How much do I make now? Like 250?\u201d Only then was she muted. For the record, Monsef\u2019s salary is now\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/lop.parl.ca\/sites\/ParlInfo\/default\/en_CA\/People\/Salaries\"><strong>$269,800<\/strong><\/a>\u2014along with a $2,000 car allowance. StatsCan pegged the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n after-tax income of Canadian families in 2018 at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/200224\/dq200224a-eng.htm\"><strong>$61,400<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Commons smacked down an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ndp.ca\/news\/liberals-conservatives-and-bloc-side-wealthy-instead-canadian-families\">NDP motion<\/a> that supported a <strong>wealth tax<\/strong>\u2014specifically, a one per cent levy on income earned over $20 million. The New Democrats only found dance partners in the Green Party, and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HoCChamber\/status\/1328441455111790592\">292 votes against<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear exactly how big a role Canada\u2019s military will play in vaccine distribution, but the brass <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/health\/coronavirus\/canadian-military-prepares-to-help-with-covid-19-vaccine-distribution-1.5191182\">told a parliamentary committee yesterday<\/a> that the Armed Forces are helping to develop a logistics support plan. Military planners are reportedly already embedded at the Public Health Agency of Canada.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clickbait of the day:<\/strong>\u00a0In an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalobserver.com\/2020\/11\/13\/opinion\/annamie-paul-green-party-canada-climate-future\">interview with the\u00a0<em>National Observer<\/em><\/a>, new Green leader <strong>Annamie Paul<\/strong> made the credible claim that\u00a0<strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> was a better slayer of carbon emissions than\u00a0Trudeau\u2019s Liberals. \u201cCanadians don\u2019t like to hear it, and I don\u2019t like to say it, but even under Donald Trump, the Americans did a better job at tackling the climate emergency over his four years than Canada did,\u201d she said. Coincidentally, the day <em>after<\/em> the presidential election, Paul spoke to\u00a0<em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em> senior writer Paul Wells about her plans for the federal Greens. <strong>Watch that conversation here.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The horse race:<\/strong> Abacus Data has the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abacusdata.ca\/liberal-conservative-vote-november-polling-abacus-data\/\">Liberals up eight points<\/a> over the Tories, and the firm\u2019s latest poll says Trudeau\u2019s team leads <strong>everywhere but the Prairies<\/strong>. The biggest issues on voters\u2019 minds are finding a way to <strong>cope with COVID-19<\/strong> and saving the country\u2019s economy. A little less than one-quarter of Canadians cited <strong>climate change<\/strong> as a top issue.<\/p>\n<p>This might be the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/csj-sjc\/pa-lprp\/opc-cpl.html\">mother of all federal consultations<\/a>.
