\n A new contract wouldn\u2019t have cured Jamal Adams\u2019 issues with the Jets.<\/p>\n

Before Adams was shipped to Seattle in July, the 25-year-old sought to be made the league\u2019s highest-paid safety. Now, though, Adams realizes a contract extension wouldn\u2019t have made his life much better with the Jets.<\/p>\n

\u201cBro, I fought depression in New York,\u201d Adams said on the \u201cAll Things Covered\u201d podcast.<\/a> \u201cAnd I\u2019m man enough to say it. I came home after a tough loss and just sat in my room in the dark \u2014 no phone, no TV. (My dad) hated to see me like that. It killed my pops so much \u2026 He was calling my agent at the time and saying, \u2018Hey man, I don\u2019t like seeing my son like this. I need him out of this situation.\u2019 It took a toll on my life outside of football.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Adams\u2019 three seasons in New York, the Jets went 16-32. Now, instead of being part of the league\u2019s only winless team this season, Adams could make his first career playoff app<\/a>earance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey do not want to win,\u201d Adams said of the Jets. \u201cLet\u2019s be honest, the Jets were the laughingstock. (In Seattle), this is how the NFL is supposed to be. This is the dream I was dreaming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though Adams claims the team delayed contract negotiations and allegedly badmouthed him around the league as being a poor teammate, Adams said his plan was still to \u201cbecome a Jet for life.\u201d<\/p>\n

But money wasn\u2019t going to buy wins.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was bringing the juice back to the Jets,\u201d Adams said. \u201cI simply told them, \u2018Hey man, if you guys want to keep me here to be a Jet for life, let\u2019s sit down and talk. This is after the fact they told me, \u2018We wanna offer you an extension.\u2019 \u2026 I felt like I was being disrespected.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoney\u2019s a plus, but I love the game<\/a> of football. I love what I do \u2026 I was sick of hearing \u2018the rebuild year.’\u201d<\/p>\n
