Scream 5<\/em><\/strong> is on track to hit its January 2022 release date. The upcoming\u00a0sequel\/reboot, which is officially and confusingly titled Scream<\/em><\/strong>, has officially wrapp<\/a>ed filming after a three-month production in Wilmington, North Carolina amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cFilming has officially wrapped on the new \u2018SCREAM\u2019 movie,\u201d the Scream<\/em> Twitter<\/a> account revealed Tuesday, roughly three months after production on Scream<\/em>\u00a0began in Wilmington, North Carolina. \u201cThe film is expected to be released in theaters on January 14, 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a remarkably fast production amid the pandemic, which has slowed down most film and TV productions to a snail\u2019s pace due to the coronavirus safety protocols designed to keep crew and cast members safe from the threat of infection.\u00a0Scream<\/em>\u00a0also had its brush with coronavirus-related delays, after three crew members tested positive in September shortly after production began. However, it barely caused a hitch in the filming schedule, which continued to proceed without any delays. With a relatively quick production, it seems\u00a0Scream <\/em>\u00a0is on track to open in theaters in January 2022, its new target release date after the pandemic pushed the film from its initial 2021 release.<\/p>\n

Plot details aren\u2019t known yet for Scream<\/em>, though original\u00a0Scream<\/em> writer Kevin Williamson recently praised\u00a0James Vanderbilt<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Guy Busick<\/strong>\u2018s script for being both fresh and familiar. On the day of the production\u2019s wrap,\u00a0Williamson also revealed in a Tweet that the new\u00a0Scream<\/em> sequel is just titled\u00a0Scream<\/em>, the same as the original.

The soft relaunch of the beloved horror property under\u00a0Spyglass Media Group and Paramount will also star franchise newcomers\u00a0Jack Quaid<\/strong>,\u00a0Melissa Barrera<\/strong>,\u00a0Jenna Ortega<\/strong>,\u00a0Dylan Minnette<\/strong>,\u00a0Mason Gooding<\/strong>,\u00a0Kyle Gallner<\/strong>,\u00a0Jasmin Savoy Brown<\/strong>,\u00a0Mikey Madison<\/strong>, and\u00a0Sonia Ben Ammar<\/strong>.
\nRadio Silence \u2014 the directing team that includes Matt Bettinelli-Olpin<\/strong> and Tyler Gillett<\/strong>, who brought us the incredible 2019 horror film\u00a0Ready or Not<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 are directing Scream<\/em>. It will mark the first\u00a0Scream<\/em>\u00a0movie without Wes Craven at the helm.<\/p>\n
