\nIn an age where moviegoers are spoiled with reboots and sequels, fans have become particularly picky when it comes to new installments of their beloved franchises \u2014 which might be why the internet felt personally attacked when it discovered that Taylor Lautner<\/strong> had turned down the opportunity to reprise his role in the Sharkboy and Lavagirl<\/em> sequel.<\/p>\n

The social unrest began when Netflix<\/strong> released some promotional photos for the sequel, titled We Can Be Heroes<\/em>. For those who don\u2019t know, Robert Rodriguez<\/strong>\u2018s 2005 action-adventure film starred Lautner and Taylor Dooley<\/strong> as the titular superheroes (who may or may not be figments of a child\u2019s imagination) as they join forces to save the world.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s known for its cartoonish sets, over-the-top costumes, and frankly for the fact that it starred Lautner before the Twilight<\/em> franchise made him an international teen heartthrob.<\/p>\n

So imagine Twitter<\/strong>\u2019s shock and dismay upon realizing that the hunky star was NOT in the promo pics for the film\u2019s sequel because he app<\/a>arently turned down the role. Yeah, not good.<\/p>\n

While there is much to be excited over about this sequel \u2014 Sharkboy and Lavagirl have a kid now, y\u2019all! \u2014 fans couldn\u2019t get past the fact that the 28-year-old actor would not be returning as Sharkboy.\u00a0 Social media users fumed:<\/p>\n

\u201cNow why tf <\/span>Taylor Lautner<\/span> didn\u2019t take one for the team and played his role as Sharkboy<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, <\/span>Taylor Lautner<\/span>, I get it. At the height of the Twilight<\/em> craze you were bigger than the Beatles, but sometimes life doesn\u2019t go the way you hope. Now it\u2019s time you return to your roots!<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cthey\u2019re ruining everything by remaking it\u2026. but it\u2019s the no <\/span>Taylor Lautner<\/span> for me<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey look great, but I feel betrayed by <\/span>Taylor Lautner<\/span> for not returning<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201chow and why did <\/span>Taylor Lautner<\/span> say no to this I know damn well he\u2019s not busy<\/span>\u201c<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ouch!<\/p>\n

So what\u00a0is<\/em> Taylor doing now instead? Well, in 2016 he was on\u00a0Scream Queens<\/em>. Remember\u00a0Scream Queens<\/em>?? Then until\u00a02018, he co-starred in the British sitcom Cuckoo<\/em>\u2026 Yeah, that\u2019s mostly it lately.<\/p>\n

The new Sharkboy portrayer is J.J. Dashnaw<\/strong>, a stunt performer who has worked on several Marvel<\/strong> films \u2014 not to mention, Rodriguez\u2019s 2001 classic Spy Kids<\/em>. Impressive resume aside, he\u2019s clearly still got big fins to fill.<\/p>\n

Wanna feel old? Sharkboy and Lavagirl are parents now (and their daughter is played by Vivien Lyra Blair aka Girl from BIRD BOX)<\/p>\n
