“#’Hair’ star Lynn Kellogg dead at 77 of COVID-19<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Lynn Kellogg, who starred in the original 1968 Broadway production of the musical \u201cHair,\u201d died Nov. 12, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 77.<\/p>\n

According to her publicist, the cause of death was COVID-19, the New York Times reported<\/a>. Her husband, John Simpers, reportedly said she got infected recently at a large theater gathering in Branson, Missouri, at which most attendees were maskless.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe had a non-life-threatening leukemia, so that was the big problem when she got COVID,\u201d Simpers told KTVI Fox 2<\/a> in St. Louis. \u201cCoupled with that, leukemia is disastrous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is probably one of the most modest people I\u2019ve ever met,\u201d Simpers said of his wife, who played the \u201cHair\u201d character Sheila. \u201cShe knew a lot of people. I was five hours on the phone on Saturday. Five hours. People calling me, people upset, just all over the place, all over the country. It\u2019s amazing and it\u2019s still happ<\/a>ening now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among those paying tribute on social media<\/a> were \u201cBrady Bunch\u201d star Maureen McCormick, who played eldest daughter Marcia. McCormick tweeted<\/a>, \u201cRest In Peace Sweet Lynn Kellogg,\u201d including praying hands and heart emojis. \u201cLove you so very much.\u201d In a response to a commenter, McCormick added, \u201cHopefully the vaccine will be here soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Actress Dana Delany also tweeted a succinct<\/a>, \u201cWear your damn mask,\u201d along with a broken-heart emoji.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ghosts of Terrence McNally, Nick Cordero, Mark Blum, Adam Schlesinger, and Lynn Kellogg have entered the chat,\u201d wrote another commenter<\/a> who retweeted a controversial Nov. 15 post by Broadway actor Chad Kimball (\u201cCome From Away\u201d). In it, he said he would \u201crespectfully disobey\u201d governmental orders to limit indoor religious services and restrict how church choirs could perform. \u201cI will never allow a Governor, or anyone, to stop me from SINGING, let alone sing in worship to my God,\u201d he wrote<\/a>, calling it an \u201coverreach.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to sit in the house when she\u2019s not there,\u201d Simpers said. \u201cIt\u2019s a nasty disease we\u2019re dealing with, this virus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Early in her career, Kellogg made television appearances in shows including \u201cThe Beverly Hillbillies,\u201d \u201cIt Takes a Thief\u201d and \u201cMission: Impossible,\u201d as well as the daytime soap opera \u201cThe Edge of Night.\u201d On the big screen, she had a role in the 1969 film \u201cCharro!\u201d which starred Elvis Presley.<\/p>\n

Kellogg won both a Daytime Emmy and a Peabody Award for her work on the series<\/a> \u201cAnimals, Animals, Animals,\u201d (1976 to 1980), co-starring Hal Linden.<\/p>\n

In the 1960s and \u201970s, she also made numerous appearances on talk shows including \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson\u201d and \u201cThe Mike Douglas Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to KTVI, later in her career, Kellogg was involved in the Christian music industry in the Ozarks. \u201cShe came out here and she enjoyed singing Christian music all the time,\u201d her husband said.<\/p>\n

Kellogg is survived by her husband, a sister, two brothers, a stepson and a grandchild.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
