One of three ex-cops charged as accomplices in the killing of George Floyd was taken into custody Wednesday, as Minnesota\u2019s attorney general<\/a> said prosecuting all the officers involved was \u201cin the interest of justice for Mr. Floyd, his family, this community and our state.\u201d<\/p>\n

AG Keith Ellison \u2014 who noted that \u201cthe world heard Mr. Floyd crying out to his mama\u201d while his neck was under the knee of ex-cop Derek Chauvin \u2014 also said he had a message for Floyd\u2019s grieving family.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeorge Floyd mattered. He was loved, his family was important and his life had value,\u201d Ellison said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will seek justice for him and for you, and we will find it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former Minneapolis cops Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, Ellison said during a televised news<\/a> conference.<\/p>\n

Bureau of Criminal App<\/a>rehension Superintendent Drew Evans said one had been locked up and the other two were \u201cin the process\u201d of being apprehended.<\/p>\n

Evans didn\u2019t say which one was already in custody.<\/p>\n

All three were caught on camera at the scene of Floyd\u2019s fatal arrest on May 25, and video shows two of them helping restrain him at one point.<\/p>\n

The charges against them were filed along with an amended complaint that upgraded the top count against Chauvin to second-degree murder from the third-degree murder charged filed last week.<\/p>\n

Horrifying cellphone video shows Chauvin using his knee to pin Floyd\u2019s neck to the pavement for nearly nine minutes.<\/p>\n

Floyd repeatedly said \u201cI can\u2019t breathe\u201d before losing consciousness, and Chauvin ignored repeated pleas from bystanders to remove his knee from Floyd\u2019s neck, the video shows.<\/p>\n

Ellison said the case remained under investigation and was being conducted in parallel with a federal civil-rights probe that he\u2019d been told has the \u201cfull support\u201d of the Justice Department.<\/p>\n

But he cautioned that the outcome of his prosecution was far from assured.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning a conviction will be hard,\u201d Ellison said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHistory does show there will be clear challenges here.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
