There\u2019s the wrong assumption that bigger lists are more profitable so the main email marketing goal for many marketers would be growing their list.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This wrong assumption would inevitably lead to building an unclean list, a list with people who are not interested in your content or your business at all. And they won\u2019t engage with your emails at all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of the mistakes people make when growing their email list are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adding contacts to their list without their consent.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Misleading people about what you\u2019re offering in your <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>letter. After all, the main reason you\u2019ve created your newsletter is so that you can promote your services and products to your subscribers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A great way to promote your content in your newsletters is what the great email copywriter, Ben Settle, explains as \u201cinfotainment\u201d, giving your audience a \u201cgreat-tasting hot dog\u201d but \u201cnourishes them like broccoli\u201d. The idea is not new in the world of marketing and advertising but is what most commercial emails fall short of in practice \u2014 they are either informative but tasteless or amusing but pointless.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are some elements that would make your emails infotainment, that is both amusing and informative (about your product):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Prioritizing your subscribers\u2019 interests:<\/strong> nothing catches our attention more than when people talk about us or what matters to us. It is well-known that a good marketing copy is what captures its audience\u2019s interests the most. The consequences would be dire for your overall business. Claiming anything ridiculous, making up facts, or overpromising will do nothing but risk your entire reputation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The most common dishonest practice in email marketing is using clickbait subject lines. This might give you a few more opens or clicks but eventually, it frustrates your subscribers. Send people a few clickbait emails and they\u2019ll doubt whatever claims you make \u2014 anytime, anywhere.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few examples from my inbox:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWant my website?\u201d\u00a0 (trying to sell his website\u2019s clumsy theme)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI told you not to do this\u201d (I had no previous communication with them)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYour subscription is expiring\u201d (What subscription?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The latest revolutionary technique of these people is using \u201cRe:\u201d in their subject lines without having started a conversation with me.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cRe: your invite\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c[last chance] Re: your offer\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cRe: Join . . . in London on October 19th \u2013 save your spot now!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The best strategy for writing a subject line is being truthful to the content in the first place. Being smart comes next. This holds true for any kind of subject lines you\u2019re writing including blog posts and cold emails. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hunter.io\/blog\/cold-email-subject-line\/\">Hunter\u2019s guide on cold email subject lines<\/a> is a great help here.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dont_worry_about_unsubscriptions\"><\/span>Don\u2019t worry about unsubscriptions:\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Question remains: should you worry about losing your subscribers all the time?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The answer is no.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a matter of fact, you need to get rid of your unengaged subscribers from time and time, an act which is referred to as cleansing your list. Having an unclean list (a list that contains so many inactive subscribers) is costly in two ways:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It\u2019s unnecessarily more expensive because you\u2019re paying for a large, but not engaged, list.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Poor numbers (including low open rates) will increase your spam score. Your emails will be considered spam after a while and not delivered to people\u2019s primary inbox.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This does not mean you should not try to engage your subscribers.
