“#Prince William Breaks Silence On BBC’s Investigation Into Infamous Princess Diana Interview

\nPrince William<\/strong> is weighing in on his mother\u2019s most controversial interview \u2014 one which critics have said contributed to the media<\/a> circus which ultimately caused her death.<\/p>\n

In case you haven\u2019t been following the case, journalist Martin Bashir<\/strong> has recently been accused of using faked bank statement documents to persuade Princess Diana<\/strong> to give him an explosive interview back in 1995.<\/p>\n

In the landmark interview, Diana called Camilla Parker Bowles<\/strong> the \u201cthird person\u201d in her then-marriage to\u00a0Prince Charles<\/strong>\u00a0AND admitted to an affair with James Hewitt<\/strong> \u2014 who to this day has continued to deny rumors that he was the one who fathered\u00a0Prince Harry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Immediately, the interview became infamous around the world, leading to major controversies within the royal family that hadn\u2019t yet fully subsided by the time Diana died two years later. Now, years later, the BBC<\/strong> is investigating Bashir \u2014 who was working on their behalf at the time \u2014 even going so far as to hire an independent investigation team led by former Supreme Court judge Lord Dyson<\/strong> tasked to \u201cget to the truth\u201d of the interview and its set up.<\/p>\n

As the search has wound its course, insiders close to the royal family have claimed the Duke Of Cambridge is \u201ctentatively\u201d welcoming the investigation, unsure of what may come from it. But this week, Prince William himself opened up about Bashir, and his then-show\u00a0BBC Panorama<\/em>, in a new statement released by\u00a0Kensington Palace<\/strong> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In it, the 38-year-old father \u2014 who was about 13 years old when the infamous interview was first released \u2014 said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe independent investigation is a step in the right direction. It should help establish the truth behind the actions that led to the Panorama<\/em> interview and subsequent decisions taken by those in the BBC at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Truth is paramount!<\/p>\n

BBC Director General<\/a>\u00a0Tim Davie<\/strong> concurred in his own statement about the controversial interview, as well. Saying the network is \u201cdetermined\u201d to figure out what went on regarding Bashir\u2019s access to Princess Diana, Davie released his own statement:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why we have commissioned an independent investigation. Lord Dyson is an eminent and highly respected figure who will lead a thorough process.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

American viewers may know Bashir for his work stateside on air for ABC News<\/a><\/em> and then MSNBC\u00a0<\/em>from 2005 through 2013. Perhaps his most famous work was with\u00a0Michael Jackson<\/strong> \u2014 as the footage in his 2003 documentary special was the catalyst for investigations into accusations of child molestation.<\/p>\n

Bashir has since returned to the United Kingdom, and in 2016 was hired again by the BBC to serve as the broadcast\u2019s religion editor. Late last month, the network reported that the journalist had contracted COVID-19, announcing he was \u201cseriously unwell\u201d while continuing to fight the disease. Yikes\u2026<\/p>\n

Regardless, this whole thing can\u2019t be easy for William (and Harry, thousands of miles away) to have to re-live now.<\/p>\n
