Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>s back by years.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Safety_concerns\"><\/span>Safety concerns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The report\u2019s findings will cause concern for transport authorities, which are already dealing with the fallout from huge drops in ridership and revenue since the pandemic struck.<\/p>\n<p>While the most common reasons for people feeling they need a car are, like last year, being able to carry heavy items (68%) and staying connected (59%), more than half (54%) say it is because they see cars as a safer form of transport during the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0Over half (52%) say they will use public transport less in the future as a result of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>A recent\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samschwartz.com\/apta-public-transit-and-covid19-report\">study<\/a>\u00a0commissioned by the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apta.com\/\">American Public Transportation Association<\/a>\u00a0concluded that there is no direct correlation between public transit use and COVID-19 spread in cities globally, provided\u00a0people wear masks and trains and buses are well-ventilated.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Schwartz, the former NYC Traffic Commissioner whose transit consulting firm compiled the report, said misinformation about the link between COVID-19 and transit is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>alling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UK transport companies have increased cleaning regimes and a mandatory facemask rule has been in place since 15 June.
