There may be less of a spring in\u00a0Peter Rabbit\u2019s step when the\u00a0James Corden<\/strong>-voiced rabbit bounds back into theaters with\u00a0Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0<\/em>Sony\u2019s sequel to the live-action\/CGI hybrid comedy has been hit by delay after delay amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and has received its latest new release date \u2014 which will be a full year after it was initially set to hit theaters. But it\u2019s not much of a leap for Sony to push the new\u00a0Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway<\/em> release date to Easter 2021.<\/p>\n

Sony has pushed the release date for\u00a0Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway<\/em> for a third time \u2014 this time to Easter weekend 2021.\u00a0Peter Rabbit 2<\/em>\u2018s April 4, 2021<\/strong> release puts the new date a full-year after the Corden-led family comedy was originally set to hit theaters on April 3, 2020.
\nSony has been determined to release\u00a0Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway<\/em>\u00a0in theaters, first delaying the film to August when the coronavirus pandemic first hit. Then, it was further delayed to\u00a0January 15, 2021, and is now getting pushed back two more months, to Easter weekend \u2014 the most fitting date, considering the film is about a rogueish rabbit.<\/p>\n

But the continued delays of\u00a0Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway<\/em> speaks to the uncertain state of the theatrical market, with major markets remaining closed amid surging coronavirus cases in the U.S., and theaters on the verge of going under. Though the first\u00a0Peter Rabbit<\/em> was a major box office success \u2014 grossing over $320 million worldwide \u2014 there\u2019s little chance this will be the film to help save cinemas, but it\u2019s likely Sony wants to make back its budget for the live-action\/CGI hybrid in theaters.<\/p>\n

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/em>is directed by Will Gluck<\/strong>, who co-wrote the screenplay with Patrick Burleigh. It is produced by Gluck and Zareh Nalbandian with Doug Belgrad,\u00a0Jodi Hildebrand,\u00a0Catherine Bishop,\u00a0Emma Topping,\u00a0Thomas Merrington and\u00a0Jonathan Hludzinski serving as executive producers.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to Corden, reprising his voice role as the mischievous Peter Rabbit, the cast includes\u00a0Rose Byrne<\/strong>,\u00a0Domhnall Gleeson<\/strong>, and\u00a0David Oyelowo<\/strong>\u00a0in the human roles.
