“#’Black Lightning’ to Come to an End With Season 4 on the CW<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The Arrowverse<\/a> loses two veteran shows in 2021.<\/p>\n

Season 4 of\u00a0Black Lightning<\/em><\/a> \u2014 which just officially joined the Arrowverse in the last crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” \u2014 will be its last,\u00a0Variety<\/em><\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

Black Lightning<\/em> stars Cress Williams<\/a>, Nafessa Williams<\/a>, China Ann McClain, James Remar<\/a>,\u00a0Christine Adams<\/a>, Marvin Jones III, Jordan Calloway, and Chantal Thuy.<\/p>\n

“When we first started the Black Lighting<\/em>\u00a0journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the super hero genre,” executive producer Salim Akil said in a statement. “The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series<\/a> over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black People Want To See Themselves in all their complexities.”<\/p>\n

Akil then noted that this may not be the end of the\u00a0Black Lightning<\/em> world. As was announced on November 12, the upcoming seventh episode of Season 4 will serve as a backdoor pilot for the potential spinoff,\u00a0Painkiller<\/em>, based on the characters created for DC by Tony Isabella with Eddie Newell.<\/p>\n

With Akil serving as executive producer, writer, and director, Calloway’s Khalil Payne heads to a new city, Akashic Valley, to distance himself from his past as the super-enhanced killing machine, Painkiller, in Freeland City.<\/p>\n

“As his violent, destructive history crashes his idyllic new beginning, Khalil is thrusted back into action with a new mission \u2014 bring justice where he once gave out punishment,” the logline teases.<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> of\u00a0Black Lightning<\/em>‘s final season comes after the CW announced\u00a0Supergirl<\/em><\/a> is also ending in 2021 (with its sixth season).\u00a0Arrow<\/em><\/a>, the show that started it all for the Arrowverse, ended after eight seasons in January 2020. That leaves\u00a0The Flash<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0DC’s Legends of Tomorrow<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0Batwoman<\/em><\/a>, and the upcoming\u00a0Superman & Lois<\/em><\/a> to carry on its legacy. (There’s still no word on the potential\u00a0Arrow<\/em> spinoff,\u00a0Green Arrow and the Canaries<\/em>.)<\/p>\n
