\n The maker of Eskimo Pies will change the 99-year-old brand name of the ice cream treat, the company said Friday \u2014 becoming the latest organization to overhaul the marketing of a product with a racially tinged moniker in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

The owner of the Eskimo Pie, Dreyer\u2019s Grand Ice Cream, said in a statement they had been considering renaming the chocolate-covered ice cream bar and popsicle for some time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to being a part of the solution on racial equality, and recognize the term is derogatory,\u201d the company\u2019s head of marketing said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis move is part of a larger review to ensure our company and brands reflect our people values,\u201d the company added.<\/p>\n

Along with the name change, the company will alter the treat\u2019s marketing scheme, which traditionally featured a young boy dressed as an Eskimo in a snowy environment.<\/p>\n

The move comes after brands such as Aunt Jemima\u2019s syrup and Uncle Ben\u2019s rice have said they will would overhaul their controversial imaging amid online criticism.<\/p>\n

Cream of Wheat, which features a black chef as their mascot, said Thursday they would review their marketing strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand there are concerns regarding the Chef image,\u201d said B&G Foods in a\u00a0emailed statement, adding that they \u201care initiating an immedia<\/a>te review\u201d of the cereal brand\u2019s packaging.<\/p>\n

The shift in advertising comes amid widespread protests in America over police brutality and systemic racism in the United States.<\/p>\n
