The foreign-policy establishment gripes about President Trump nonstop, notes Ray Takeyh at Foreign Policy<\/a>, but \u201coverlooked is the fact that the Trump administration has pursued a successful Middle East policy\u201d \u2014 and will bequeath to its successors a more stable region with a smaller US footprint. \u201cIt succeeded precisely because it challenged entrenched assumptions\u201d: above all, the once-undying Washington myth that a Palestinian state is the indispensable precondition to acceptance of Israel, now finally buried thanks to the Abraham Accords solidifying peace between the Jewish state and at least three Arab states. \u201cTrump\u2019s penchant toward disruption came in handy in a region that needed shaking up. He succeeded because only an iconoclastic president could have stabilized the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: An Election Urban Legend<\/strong><\/p>\n

At National Review, Dan McLaughlin debunks<\/a> the viral social<\/a>-media myth that Joe Biden outperformed Hillary Clinton in only four US cities, all in swing states: Milwaukee, Detroit, Atlanta and Philadelphia. \u201cThe facts do not fit the story\u201d: Look at the 36 biggest cities (outside deep-blue California and New York): \u201cBiden improved his margin of victory compared to Hillary in 31 out of 36 urban counties \u2014 and Philadelphia was one of the five in which he didn\u2019t.\u201d Oh, and of Joe\u2019s 10 biggest-gain cities, \u201conly one (Atlanta) was in a swing state.\u201d So \u201cif you are still looking for proof that Joe Biden did not legitimately win the 2020 election . . . you will need to do better than this.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the left: Team Biden\u2019s \u2018Latino\u2019 Mistake<\/strong><\/p>\n

National observers were shocked when \u201cDonald Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate to win Zapata County\u2019s vote in 100 years,\u201d Jack Herrera at Politico points out<\/a>, a county the Census has as 94 percent Latino \u2014 as well as several other \u201cHispanic\u201d counties in Texas. But outsiders make \u201cthe same mistake as the Democrats did in this election: treating Latinos as a monolith.\u201d As one GOP county chair puts it, \u201cwe say we\u2019re Tejanos.\u201d Indeed, Herrera explains, \u201cmany regard themselves as red-blooded Americans above anything else.\u201d Trump\u2019s \u201ccampaign spoke to them as Tejanos, who may be traditionally Democratic but have a set of specific concerns . . . amenable to the Republican Party\u2019s positions, and it resonated.\u201d To recover, Democrats need to avoid seeing these voters as \u201cjust an extension of the so-called Latino community.\u201d<\/p>\n

West Coast beat: Stop Arguing, Fight the Fires<\/strong><\/p>\n

At City Journal, Mayor Sashi McEntee of Mill Valley, Calif., faults<\/a> both Gov. Gavin News<\/a>om, who blames the \u201cclimate emergency\u201d for the state\u2019s latest fires, and President Trump, who cites poor forest management, for \u201cnot asking the right question\u201d: What do we do to protect lives and property from fire? \u201cMillions of lives, billions of dollars in property and whole ecosystems hang in the balance.\u201d Her solutions: \u201cvegetation management, evacuation planning, early detection and alerts and neighborhood preparedness.\u201d Each community has to decide \u201cwhat level of risk\u201d it\u2019s willing to take, and that will translate into tax dollars to be used for the problem. Meanwhile, \u201cNewsom and the California legislature should leave the political game<\/a>-playing aside\u201d and \u201cback up wildfire-prevention efforts with the dollars that communities need to survive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iconoclast: Racist . . . Bird-Watching?<\/strong><\/p>\n

How exactly can anyone call the National Audubon Society racist, wonders The Spectator\u2019s pseudonymous Cockburn<\/a>. But the group\u2019s senior specialist for equity, diversity and inclusion quit recently \u2014 and on the heels of Audubon\u2019s top diversity officer leaving \u2014 claiming \u201ca tight group of mostly white males\u201d makes all decisions. But \u201cCockburn does not believe, for even one fraction of a second, that a Manhattan-based environmental group for birdwatching enthusiasts is a hotbed of racism, heterosexism and all-around evilism.\u201d The group is even looking to change its name, though John James Audubon was only \u201chonored for painting \u2018The Birds of America,\u2019 not for his years as a slaveholder.\u201d \u201cSomeday, the world will stop being surprised when people hired as anti-racism police keep finding sinister racism to justify their existence.\u201d<\/p>\n
