\n Landry Shamet officially became a Net Thursday night, but don\u2019t think he hadn\u2019t already impressed the right people in the organization.<\/p>\n

Kevin Durant had not only praised Shamet during 2019\u2019s Clippers-Warriors playoff series<\/a>, but developed a friendship and invited the guard to the Nets\u2019 ad hoc workouts earlier this month at The Sports Academy. And Shamet already knew Steve Nash from living in the same Los Angeles neighborhood.<\/p>\n

After taking part in the pickup game<\/a>s organized by Durant and Kyrie Irving, now Shamet is in Brooklyn gearing up to join those two stars for real.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny, that\u2019s who I was primarily playing a lot of pickup with a bit at Mamba Sports Academy this fall,\u201d Shamet said. \u201cOver my offseason, I\u2019ve been able to play with those two guys, play against them, get to know them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited. I like how they both play. They both move, they want to set screens and play in space. They\u2019re unselfish, willing passers. They\u2019re smart. My wheels have been spinning on how I can get involved and how I can get those guys shots and how I\u2019ll be able to contribute.\u201d<\/p>\n

Durant praised Shamet after the Clippers\u2019 31-point rally versus Golden State in Game 2 of 2019\u2019s first round. But after this past season\u2019s second-round exit, amid reports of poor chemistry, Shamet said the Nets working out en masse bodes well.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving them have a number of guys in LA, all playing pickup every day together, that\u2019s a great start,\u201d Shamet said. \u201cGetting to know each other before push comes to shove and before things get really hard, that\u2019s No. 1.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shamet insists Durant never recruited him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo we didn\u2019t talk about teaming up,\u201d Shamet said. \u201cWe always talk, have a good relationship \u2014 and that whole playoff series against Golden State \u2026 was great to initially build that relationship. Then every time I\u2019ve seen him since it\u2019s been more and more. We were texting, but didn\u2019t really talk about any trades.\u201d<\/p>\n

That value is a young career 40.0 percent shooter from deep and willing defender. Of course, Nash was already a fan. Or at least his son was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI lived in Manhattan Beach\/Hermosa Beach area in LA and so does Steve. It was last Christmas, I\u2019m having dinner with my agent, Steve\u2019s there eating with his family and he comes over with his son and he\u2019s like \u2018Hey man sorry to interrupt, really don\u2019t want to bother you, but my son is a big fan. Mind if he takes a picture?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking at him like, \u2018Dude, I should be asking to take a picture with you.\u2019 It was crazy. \u2026 So yeah, I met him there and we had somewhat of a relationship \u2014 then obviously talked to him when the trade went down. I\u2019m excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dealing for Shamet shows the Nets are in win-now mode. With 19 games of playoff experience, he\u2019s more seasoned than any rookie.<\/p>\n

\u201cLandry\u2019s played big games. When you\u2019ve played in playoff games and you\u2019re at that age \u2013 you\u2019re a young guy \u2013 that speaks volumes,\u201d said GM Sean Marks. \u201cHe\u2019s obviously been trusted in other places he\u2019s been, and doesn\u2019t shy away from big moments. It goes back to the experience he\u2019s already had, but also adding more of that shooting piece. I think he\u2019s a very versatile defender as well.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
