\n Disney is considering bypassing movie theaters and sending its upcoming films \u201cPinocchio,\u201d \u201cPeter Pan\u201d and \u201cCruella\u201d directly to its Disney+ home streaming service, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

Citing anonymous sources, Deadline reported Friday<\/a> that the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic has the Mouse House rethinking its theatrical release strategy.<\/p>\n

At this point, the films being discussed to make the pivot are \u201cCruella,\u201d the Craig Gillespie-directed live-action remake of the animated classic that stars Emma Stone; the Robert Zemeckis-directed \u201cPinocchio,\u201d starring Tom Hanks; and \u201cPeter Pan and Wendy,\u201d the David Lowery-directed flick that features Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell.<\/p>\n

Disney did not return request for comment.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t clear whether the trio of films, which are set to hit theaters in 2021, will be offered free to Disney+ subscribers. Disney has been tinkering with its pricing strategy. It recently offered its Pixar animated flick \u201cSoul\u201d free to Disney+ customers. This came after it released \u201cMulan\u201d over the summer for an additional cost of $29.99, a move that drew some criticism for its high price tag.<\/p>\n

The strategic shift from theatrical to streaming comes at a time when movie theaters are operating at limited capacity, if at all.<\/p>\n

Disney has made it clear that its priority is to focus its efforts on its growing streaming service, as its other businesses, like theme<\/a> parks and film, have been crushed by the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Disney said its direct-to-consumer business saw revenue grow 41 percent to $4.9 billion as overall revenue sank 23 percent to $14.7 billion. Disney+ subscriptions expanded to 73.7 million as of early October, helped by the \u201cStar Wars\u201d spinoff series<\/a> \u201cThe Mandalorian,\u201d and \u201cMulan,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n

While Disney+ still trails Netflix\u2019s mammoth 195 million-strong subscriber base, its pace of growth has been impressive considering the service launched last November.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
