Yet this year\u2019s election raises doubts: With a \u201crecord-high turnout,\u201d the GOP \u201cnot only held its own\u201d but \u201cexceeded expectations at every level.\u201d Joe Biden won \u201ca comfortable victory\u201d in the popular vote, but \u201cthe GOP\u2019s resounding success in down-ballot races\u201d dealt a \u201csignificant blow\u201d to the myth that \u201ca latent majoritarian mandate exists for the progressive agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"From_the_right_Trumps_path_to_2024\"><\/span>From the right: Trump\u2019s path to 2024<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>President Trump has little chance of overturning the election\u2019s result, so <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2020\/11\/10\/best-way-trump-could-launch-2024-campaign\/\">Marc A. Thiessen at the Washington Post<\/a> offers a way for him to \u201cleave the presidency with the best chance to reclaim it in four years.\u201d The key: \u201cCooperate with the Biden transition.\u201d Trump needs to understand that millions \u201cdid not vote for him because they were tired of chaos.\u201d With an \u201cunprecedented farewell address,\u201d he could announce plans to run again, \u201cpointing his followers to the future and rallying them.\u201d He can \u201clead the GOP to keep control of the Senate\u201d in January and \u201cretake the House in 2022.\u201d Instead of the \u201cbeginning of a new progressive era,\u201d Team Biden could be little more than an \u201cinterregnum \u2014 but only if Trump handles the next six weeks correctly.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Financial_beat_The_Feds_going_green\"><\/span>Financial beat: The Fed\u2019s going green<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Chairman Jerome Powell is signaling that the Federal Reserve is about to make \u201ccombating climate change\u201d part of its \u201cmandate,\u201d reports <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/11\/the-capital-note-legislation-by-regulation-soon-the-fed-is-entering-the-climate-wars\/\">Andrew Stuttaford at National Review<\/a>. It\u2019s \u201cmission creep\u201d of the kind that\u2019s \u201cnow detectable in so many institutions.\u201d Yet you\u2019ve got to wonder: Do central banks really expect people to trust them to implement their own climate-change policy? (And maybe take on inequality and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> justice next?) The Fed expects to soon join the Network for Greening the Financial System, 75 central banks looking to \u201cbetter understand\u201d the risks of climate change. Yet climate change poses no financial risk in any short-term horizon that can be conceivably assessed. \u201cThe fix,\u201d snarks Stuttaford, \u201cis in.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conservative_Closing_schools_child_abuse\"><\/span>Conservative: Closing schools = child abuse<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Mayor de Blasio has closed city schools again, but COVID-19 at this point is \u201cnot an emergency, and we have to stop treating it like one at the expense of our children,\u201d pleads <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/11\/18\/new-york-denying-school-to-children-is-child-abuse\/\">The Federalist\u2019s David Marcus<\/a>. De Blasio\u2019s move is based on an arbitrary promise he made to \u201cteachers unions, who know they have him in their pocket,\u201d even though there\u2019s scientific consensus that \u201cschools are not big spreaders of the virus.\u201d Yet ignoring kids\u2019 need for a decent education is \u201cchild abuse,\u201d and parents must punish \u201cpoliticians who steal this from our kids.\u201d If we don\u2019t \u201cmuster shame and demand action,\u201d we\u2019re failing the next generation and labeling our own as \u201cthe most cowardly and self-serving\u201d ever. \u201cEnd this madness now.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Urban_desk_Liberals_limit_upward_mobility\"><\/span>Urban desk: Liberals limit upward mobility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An \u201cUpward Mobility Index\u201d from an Urban Reform Institute study confirms that \u201cminority residents fail to achieve the upward mobility found in parts of the country often chided by progressives for their supposed backwardness,\u201d reports the institute\u2019s president, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/op-eds\/liberal-cities-fail-to-provide-upward-mobility\">Charles Blain, at the Washington Examiner<\/a>. California and New York cities \u201cdominate the list of the least upwardly mobile,\u201d while \u201cplaces where housing prices and taxes are low, the regulatory framework for business is friendly and government, overall, is more constrained, provide a better shot\u201d for blacks and Hispanics.
