\n Economist: Left\u2019s Elitist College-Debt Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cProgressive calls for President-elect Joe Biden to forgive student debt in his first 100 days of office should be ignored in lieu of a more moderate proposal: forgiveness capp<\/a>ed at $5,000 of debt,\u201d argues Beth Akers at The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. The reality is that most college grads with big debt are fine: \u201cBorrowers with the largest balances are the least likely to default . . . because they\u2019ve often invested in professional or graduate degrees that lead to careers with high earning potential.\u201d It\u2019s those with small debts but no degree who are truly stuck. Since \u201cuniversal student-loan cancellation\u201d would \u201cbleed the working class to alleviate debt for those with more-lucrative career options,\u201d we should call it \u201cwhat it is: elitist.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: Anti-racism Icon\u2019s Pay Hypocrisy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The University of Wisconsin featured two keynote speakers at its annual Diversity Forum this year, but \u201cprominent diversity consultant Robin DiAngelo raked in $12,750,\u201d nearly 70 percent more than black female author Austin Channing Brown, reports The Washington Free Beacon\u2019s Charles Fain Lehman<\/a>. It\u2019s a disparity that \u201ca devoted reader of her work would likely identify as racist.\u201d DiAngelo herself has \u201ccalled such inequitable treatment the racist heart of capitalism.\u201d The excessive fees for this speaking engagement \u201care just the latest example of the exorbitant rates DiAngelo charges for public lectures on \u2018anti-racism\u2019 and \u2018white fragility,\u2019 pop sociological concepts that have taken on new power amid America\u2019s current racial upheaval.\u201d She and other prominent \u201cwoke\u201d figures will \u201ccontinue to reap healthy payouts for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Centrist: No Representation for Trumpers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Progressives this month launched a campaign to demonize and harass lawyers and law firms who would dare represent Team Trump in its various election-related cases \u2014 and \u201cNew Jersey Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell expanded that campaign this week with a malicious and frivolous demand for New York and other states to disbar roughly two dozen lawyers for representing Trump,\u201d fumes legal scholar Jonathan Turley at his blog<\/a>. Yes, many of Team Trump\u2019s claims may not pass muster. But courts have greeted others more warmly, and either way, none of the claims deserves to leave the lawyers disbarred or suspended. \u201cWhat Pascrell is doing is undermining our legal system by using his office to advance a campaign targeting lawyers and legislators who raise objections to his party prevailing in the presidential election.\u201d<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Sidney Powell\u2019s Absurd Claims<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lawyer Sidney Powell says President Trump \u201cis the victim of a vast conspiracy to steal the 2020 election,\u201d notes Reason\u2019s Robby Soave<\/a>, and has now \u201caccused Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican and key Trump ally, of accepting bribes from Dominion, the voting-software company baselessly accused of switching millions of votes from Trump\u201d to Joe Biden, and \u00adasserted Hillary Clinton used the same software to defeat Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary. But she has \u201cprovided no evidence for any of her claims,\u201d and though she has appeared at press conferences alongside Rudy Giuliani, the Trump campaign distanced itself from her. The \u201cvast conspiracy\u201d she is alleging \u2014 which even involves \u201cdeceased dictator Hugo Chavez\u201d \u2014 \u201cwould be the most serious and unprecedented assault on American democracy in living memory.\u201d So to \u201csay that she\u2019s straining credulity would be the understatement of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Religion beat: Battling for the Mass<\/strong><\/p>\n

At First Things, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone \u00adrecounts <\/a>that \u201clike most bishops, my first response\u201d to the coronavirus was to cooperate with lockdowns. He suspended public Masses but left churches open for private worship. Meanwhile, he put into place rigorous safety protocols and \u201cpleaded with public officials behind the scenes.\u201d Yet when the reopening order finally came down, it only permitted outdoor worship for 12 people. Meanwhile, a parishioner could \u201cspend three hours in a Nordstrom\u2019s shopping for shoes.\u201d At that point, the bishop \u00adrealized he would have to go to war, launching his \u201cFree the Mass\u201d campaign \u2014 and he won: \u201cThe city raised the limit on public worship indoors to 100 people.\u201d<\/p>\n
