“#NYC sees six-hour lines for COVID-19 testing ahead of Thanksgiving<\/strong>”

\n Lines for COVID-19 tests in Manhattan stretched for more than six hours Monday, as New Yorkers rushed to get checked ahead of Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n

Outside a CityMD clinic on East 86th Street in the Upper East Side, the line stretched for three blocks, down First Avenue and onto East 85th Street, by early afternoon.<\/p>\n

One local couple said they\u2019d been waiting for six hours, part of it in the rain, since 6:45 am \u2014 and still had another hour to go.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been taking turns going home to put more layers on and use the bathroom,\u201d said John, 34, a tech worker waiting with his girlfriend.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re getting the rapid results test,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to, we\u2019re going to her parents house in New Jersey for Thanksgiving. Her mom is 65 and her dad is 63.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others weren\u2019t so prepared for the long, chilly wait.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know it\u2019d be this long,\u201d said Jack, a 21-year-old student who showed up to the urgent care clinic at 11 a.m. \u2014 wearing shorts and flip flops.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone is coming down with some pants,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He had just come from home Wake Forest University in North Carolina and said his mom was \u201cmaking\u201d him get tested before Turkey Day with his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m doing the rapid test to get the negative results before Thanksgiving, we\u2019re having relatives over,\u201d the Upper East Side resident added. \u201cShe\u2019s worried.\u201d<\/p>\n

The huge crowds lined up even as many medicals experts and officials advise people to stick to their immedia<\/a>te households for the celebration \u2014 and that they shouldn\u2019t necessarily rely on a negative test result as a sign that they\u2019re safe.<\/p>\n

The Food and Drug Administration says<\/a> rapid test results \u201care usually highly accurate, but false positives can happ<\/a>en, especially in areas where very few people have the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that wasn\u2019t going to stop California resident Sarabeth \u2014 who joined a six-hour-long line at outside another CityMD on West 88th Street after flying to the East Coast to share the holiday with her family in Connecticut.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family won\u2019t let me anywhere near them without (a test),\u201d Sarabeth, who works in real estate marketing, told the Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cI explained that I could test negative and have it, it doesn\u2019t mean anything really. They don\u2019t care. I\u2019m not allowed in the house without one.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
