\n In a rush to grandstand, four Queens lawmakers vowed to donate thousands in police-union and law-enforcement campaign donations to bail out protesters arrested demonstrating against the death of George Floyd. Huh? Peaceful protesters plainly have no need to post bail.<\/p>\n

Assembly Members Aravella Simotas and Catalina Cruz, state Sen. Michael Gianaris and City Councilman Francisco Moya, all Queens Democrats, each re-gifted some donations to groups collecting money to bail out protesters. (Bronx Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez pledged $500 to a Bronx bail fund.)<\/p>\n

All this adds up to an unspoken claim that New York\u2019s bail laws are still too harsh. Hah!<\/p>\n

In reality, even looters don\u2019t have to post bail to escape jail (unless they face other charges for more violent crimes).<\/p>\n

Per the state Office of Court Administration, judges\u2019 only options on charges of felony burglary (e.g., looting) are to release the accused on their own recognizance (ROR, in court-speak) or with supervised release. So peaceful protesters are an easy ROR.<\/p>\n

We certainly hope none of these donations go to making bail for the two attorneys, one a Harvard Law grad, arrested for throwing Molotov cocktails at Brooklyn cops.<\/p>\n

Then, too, Gianaris & Co. have yet to tweet about donating to a fund to help businesses savaged by the disorders, nor spoken out or tweeted against the wanton vandalism and destruction of businesses across the city employing and servicing their constituents.<\/p>\n

Such is progressive pandering today.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
