\n A crowded, maskless bash filled with \u201crich people\u201d flouting pandemic rules was thrown at billionaire Travis Kalanick\u2019s lavish Soho penthouse at the end of the summer, reports said.<\/p>\n

The party, which was ostensibly hosted by a friend of the ousted Uber CEO<\/a>, was thrown in September and featured \u201clounge music\u201d and lots of \u201cred wine\u201d \u2014 and looked straight off the set of Showtime\u2019s hit drama \u201cBillions,\u201d The Cut reported<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were tons of people there, and of course no one was wearing a mask,\u201d Cat Marnell of \u201cHow to Murder Your Life<\/a>\u201d stardom told the magazine.<\/p>\n

Marnell, 38, said she was asked to remove her shoes when she got to the penthouse, which \u201cwas so big, with walls and walls of glass\u201d and had a private pool.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyway, rich people are having maskless, indoor parties,\u201d she told the magazine.<\/p>\n

At the time of the party, New York City was in phase four of its reopening plan<\/a>, which banned indoor gatherings larger than 50 people. Experts have repeatedly said indoor, maskless gatherings can be very risky \u2014 and are what\u2019s driving the surge of new coronavirus cases.<\/p>\n

A representative for Kalanick told The Cut he\u2019d lent his apartment to a friend and was unaware of the party and also doesn\u2019t know Marnell.<\/p>\n

Still, pandemic parties are nothing new to the tech boss<\/a>. In an August Vanity Fair story, Nick Bilton said he was asked about going to a celebration at Kalanick\u2019s Los Angeles home<\/a>, and while the fest was held outdoors and was \u201csmaller\u201d than previous parties, it was reportedly held during a major surge in coronavirus cases in Southern California.<\/p>\n

At the time, large gatherings were only allowed with attendees who came from a single household, Business Insider reported<\/a>.\n <\/div>\n
