\n Amazon is once again in hot water after its Chicago warehouse offered workers chicken and waffles to celebrate Juneteenth \u2013 the day the slaves were freed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe stand in solidarity honoring the black community by supporting local black businesses. We are happ<\/a>y to share an authentic meal crafted by Chicago\u2019s Chicken Waffles June 19th,\u201d a sign read, which was posted n the DCH1 Amazonians United Facebook<\/a> Page the group.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Juneteenth, a day to celebrate some level of Liberation and Freedom won by Black people, Amazon is \u2018standing in solidarity\u2019 and \u2018honoring the Black community\u2019 by giving us, majority Black workforce at DCH1, Chicken and Waffles,\u201d the DCH1 Amazonians quipped. \u201cAs people throughout the world are rising up against cops, corporations and this anti-Black capitalist system we live under, Amazon mocks us with this racist form of \u2018celebration.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cSo much for supporting your Black\/African American employees. Where\u2019s the Solidarity \u270ain that?\u201d they continue. \u201cWe demand a paid holiday, not some damn chicken.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenters slammed the company in the post with one asking \u201cShould I bring the watermelon too?\u201d<\/p>\n

An Amazon spokesperson told CNBC in a statement that \u201cThe leader who put on this event had good intentions to honor Juneteenth by supporting a local small business owned by a member of the Black community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said that the warehouse\u2019s Juneteenth catering was being ordered from one of the employees\u2019 favorite restaurants.<\/p>\n

Amazon has been blasted recently for the inhumane conditions in its warehouses as well as firing workers who try to unionize.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
