to a mixed open  on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average likely to retreat somewhat from its historic close above a milestone at 30,000 on the day before  the Thanksgiving holiday. <\/p>\n<p> Markets will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving and will see early closures on Friday.  Due to the holiday, investors are bracing for a trove of U.S. economic reports Wednesday, including weekly jobless claims, a report on new homes sales, and an account of the Federal Reserve\u2019s most recent rate-setting meeting. <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_are_stock_benchmarks_faring\"><\/span>How are stock benchmarks faring? <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        YM00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210407078\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.22%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       were off 28 points to reach 29,969, a decline of about 0.1%.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      S&amp;P 500 index futures<br \/>\n        ES00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209948968\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.13%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       were up 2.70 point at 3,634.50, up less than 0.1%<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      Nasdaq-100 futures<br \/>\n        NQ00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210219788\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+0.17%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       were up 41.25 points, or 0.3%, at 12,117.25.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Tuesday, the Dow, S&amp;P 500 and Russell 2000 index all closed at records.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      The Dow<br \/>\n        DJIA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+1.53%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose 454.97 points, or 1.5%, at 30,046.24, its first-ever finish at a milestone above 30,000.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      The S&amp;P 500 index<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+1.61%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       gained 57.82 points, or 1.5%, to trade at 3,635.41. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      The Nasdaq Composite Index<br \/>\n        COMP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598365\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+1.31%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose 156.15 points, or 1.3%, to 12,036.79. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_driving_the_market\"><\/span>What\u2019s driving the market? <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>After a record-setting day Tuesday, investors are preparing for a deluge of U.S. economic reports that could help to provide a fresh spark in a market  buoyed by progress toward a coronavirus vaccine and growing clarity about Joe Biden\u2019s transition to the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>Thinner trading volumes headed into the Thanksgiving holiday also can have the effect of amplifying market moves in either direction. <\/p>\n<p>The data on tap may refocus investors to concentrate on the challenges that the world faces as it attempts to look past the current spread of the  COVID-19 pandemic and into a world where treatments are readily available. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cYes, vaccines have answered many questions, and we are in a much better situation today compared to the beginning of this year,\u201d wrote Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at AvaTrade in a daily research note.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, this does not change the fact that it is going to a fair amount of time before things get back on track. This means that optimism spurred by vaccine and political development maybe a little too much, and the reality is that the recovery path is still full of obstacles,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the global tally for confirmed cases of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 climbed to 59.9 million on Wednesday, according to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.jhu.edu\/map.html\" class=\"icon none\">data aggregated by Johns Hopkins University<\/a>, while the death toll rose above 1.4 million.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>On top of that, there are currently a record of 88,080 COVID-19 patients in U.S. hospitals,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/covidtracking.com\/data\/national\" class=\"icon none\">according to the COVID Tracking Project,\u00a0<\/a>topping the previous record of 85,870 set a day ago.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>That spike comes in a week in which AstraZeneca<br \/>\n        AZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200304487\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.06%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       said its coronavirus vaccine candidate being developed with the University of Oxford can reach efficacy of around 90%, adding to a list of drugmakers, including Pfizer-BioNTech<br \/>\n        BNTX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/214419716\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-4.34%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Moderna<br \/>\n        MRNA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205619834\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.44%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       racing to advance a viable vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>Vaccine <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> and reports that Biden was set to select a candidate for U.S. Treasury Secretary, former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, viewed as a steady hand for financial markets, has also helped to encourage stock buying. <\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_economic_reports_are_on_top\"><\/span>What economic reports are on top<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Looking ahead, investors will be watching for a bevy of data that have been pulled forward due to the holiday:<\/p>\n<p> At 8:30 a.m. Eastern<\/p>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      A report on orders for long-lasting goods for October, with a sixth consecutive monthly rise expected. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      A reading of advance trade in goods for October<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      Weekly data on jobless claims from the Labor Department<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      A second-reading of gross domestic product for the third quarter<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At 10 a.m. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      New homes sales for October <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      A final reading of consumer sentiment for November <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      Reports on personal income and spending, and PCE, for last month<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      Minutes from the Fed\u2019s Nov. 4-5 meeting, which comes ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee\u2019s two-day policy meeting starting Dec. 15<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Which_stocks_are_in_focus\"><\/span>Which stocks are in focus?
