{"id":120492,"date":"2020-11-26T01:39:23","date_gmt":"2020-11-25T22:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/de-blasio-says-he-has-no-plan-to-reopen-the-nyc-schools-he-closed\/"},"modified":"2020-11-26T01:39:23","modified_gmt":"2020-11-25T22:39:23","slug":"de-blasio-says-he-has-no-plan-to-reopen-the-nyc-schools-he-closed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/de-blasio-says-he-has-no-plan-to-reopen-the-nyc-schools-he-closed\/","title":{"rendered":"#De Blasio says he has no plan to reopen the NYC schools he closed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#De Blasio says he has no plan to reopen the NYC schools he closed<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday made the stunning admission that he closed city public schools due to rising COVID-19 infection rates without having a reopening plan in place \u2014 and took sole responsibility for the blunder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, I have to hold myself responsible,\u201d de Blasio admitted during a City Hall press briefing when asked by a reporter why a schools reopening plan was not created before he ordered school buildings shuttered indefinitely for in-person learning last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe better situation would have been, clearly, to have that plan all worked through in advance,\u201d de Blasio confessed, while offering no solution to the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Parents and city officials alike blasted de Blasio for the boneheaded move, which came despite no such move by the state to shutter or scale-back restaurants or other businesses that have been more closely linked to spread of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Pirozzolo, vice president of the NYC Parents Union, whose son attends a Staten Island high school, called de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza\u2019s handling of city education during the coronavirus pandemic \u201cbeyond incompetence\u201d when asked about the mayor\u2019s rare mea culpa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not real education. He got a few headlines,\u201d said Rivera, who is running for City Council next year. \u201cThen he closed the schools. How embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The de Blasio administration, over the summer, established that in-person learning at all Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le public schools would stop if the citywide coronavirus infection rate hit 3 percent on a rolling seven-day average.<\/p>\n<p>That metric was hit on the nose last Thursday, and de Blasio switched all students at city schools to 100 percent remote learning.<\/p>\n<p>And since a plan to get the schools back open was not in place, despite weeks of city data showing COVID-19 infection rates inching closer and closer to the 3 percent threshold and the mayor being asked about it by reporters almost daily, the de Blasio administration has been scrambling to figure out what to do next.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think what really happened was \u2014 as with everything COVID \u2014 we had a moving target. Mango<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And de Blasio ordered the public schools shuttered even though he has said that the schools have proven \u201cto be very safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Department of Education, random internal testing of students and staffers in school buildings consistently yielded minimal infection rates hovering around 0.19 percent.<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio promised Wednesday that the details of a reopening plan will be revealed next week.<\/p>\n<p>Many New Yorkers have pointed out the seeming incongruity of closing schools amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, while Big Apple restaurants and other businesses have not been ordered closed by the state.<\/p>\n<p>Pirozzolo called the 3 percent threshold to close schools an \u201carbitrary\u201d and \u201cbogus\u201d number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is all BS. It\u2019s not based on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>,\u201d he railed.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Nadelstern, a former deputy schools chancellor under Mayor Mike Bloomberg, echoed those remarks and said the 3 percent threshold was \u201cset too low.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NYC school system is in chaos,\u201d said Nadelstein, adding, \u201cIt\u2019s nice that de Blasio admitted that he doesn\u2019t know what he\u2019s doing. You have a mayor who doesn\u2019t have a plan and a chancellor [Richard Carranza] who doesn\u2019t have a clue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nadelstern said there\u2019s \u201creal damage\u201d happening within the city\u2019s school system \u2014 the largest in the nation \u2014 and predicted that parents will pull children out due to inadequate remote instruction and uncertain policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s important for the public to be aware that [de Blasio] chose for it to be this way,\u201d said Councilman Mark Treyger (D-Brooklyn), who chairs the Education Committee. \u201cThis is not the best that New York City can do, this is the best that he can do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>State Sen.
