\n Drama behind the scenes of daytime talk shows is heating up as Sharon Osbourne\u2019s CBS show \u201cThe Talk\u201d sinks in the ratings against ABC rival \u201cThe View.\u201d<\/p>\n

CBS insiders say producers and network execs are \u201cpanicking\u201d after \u201cThe Talk\u2019s\u201d ratings dropped to 1.5 million, half of \u201cThe View\u2019s\u201d audience of 3 million.<\/p>\n

One insider told Page Six, \u201c\u200a\u2018The View\u2019 has been growing at a huge rate during the COVID lockdown, and \u2018The Talk\u2019 is literally the lowest-rated show in the whole CBS lineup.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt one point, \u2018The Talk\u2019 and \u2018The View\u2019 were only 30,000 viewers apart \u2026 Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood\u2019s plan of getting rid of Marie Osmond was clearly a mistake in terms of ratings and number of viewers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Page Six exclusively reported in September that Osmond was ousted after just one season as co-host when Osbourne and Underwood went to CBS execs and threatened to quit unless she was canned. While her former co-hosts\u2019 motivations for pushing her out were unclear, Osmond gave the quintessential showbiz excuse of wishing to spend more time with family and to \u201cpursue other projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the CBS insider said the rotating host roster \u2014 which includes Amanda Kloots, Rumer Willis and Elaine Welteroth, who is stepping in to replace Eve \u2014 has not been delivering numbers, leaving producers and executives \u201cpanicked and frustrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing is working,\u201d said the show insider. \u201cWe are now the lowest-rated network program and we can\u2019t get any traction. To lose more than half a million viewers in a year is catastrophic for a daytime show. Unless we can hire Gayle King, Oprah or Meghan Markle, the writing is on the wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

But a separate CBS insider insisted, \u201c\u2019The Talk\u2019 does better than the other competing syndicated daytime series<\/a>. [It] is the newest show in the daytime lineup and other shows in the lineup have been on air for decades prior. Show producers and execs are not panicked and the show is not in jeopardy of getting canceled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reps for CBS and \u201cThe Talk\u201d declined to comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
