\n So much for being the happiest place on earth.<\/p>\n

The Walt Disney Company will be laying off about 32,000 workers, mostly from its theme parks, as the entertainment giant continues to struggle with a lack of customers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

In September, the company said it would lay off 28,000 people \u2014 but that number jumped by 4,000 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The cuts are expected to come in the first half of 2021, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.<\/p>\n

Workers from Disneyland in Southern California are being furloughed due to uncertainty over when the state will allow the parks to open amid new lockdowns and a surge of coronavirus cases in the area, the company announced earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Florida\u2019s theme park\u00a0reopened earlier this year \u2014 with strict social<\/a> distancing, testing and mask requirements \u2014 and didn\u2019t see any major outbreaks.<\/p>\n

In France, Disneyland Paris was forced to close for a second time in late October when the country shuttered many businesses to stave off a growing second wave of cases.<\/p>\n

In Asia, theme parks in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo are open for business.<\/p>\n
