\n Bartolo Colon is making one last-ditch effort to return to the major leagues \u2014 and he hopes it\u2019s with the Mets.<\/p>\n

Hector Gomez, an MLB reporter from the Dominican Republic, tweeted a video Wednesday and again late Thursday night of the 47-year-old Colon \u2014 whose nickname is \u201cBig Sexy\u201d \u2014 pitching off a mound while wearing a Mets t-shirt and showing off his superb control.<\/p>\n

\u201cBartolo Colon wants to play one more year in MLB and retire with the Mets,\u201d Gomez wrote in his Wednesday tweet, which included the Mets\u2019 official Twitter<\/a> accounts and that of new owner Steve Cohen.<\/p>\n

Colon, who played 21 years in the majors, spent three seasons with the Mets, going 44-34 with a 4.83 ERA and a 1.225 WHIP from 2014-16. The righty helped the Amazin\u2019s reach the World Series<\/a> in 2015 and earn one of the two NL wild cards in 2016. Colon, who hasn\u2019t pitched in an MLB game<\/a> since 2018 with the Texas Rangers, became a fan favorite in New York.<\/p>\n

The Mets, with Noah Syndergaard recovering from Tommy John surgery, are in need of rotation depth behind Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman and possibly Seth Lugo or David Peterson. They likely will be in the market for reigning NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer in free agency, but could add a veteran arm to fill out their staff, especially if the former Reds ace doesn\u2019t decide to come to Flushing. So while Colon returning to the Mets feels like a long shot, it\u2019s certainly not impossible.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
