When you have dozens of apps installed on your phone, it\u2019s easy to lose track of which permissions each of them has access to. Therefore, it\u2019s best to ensure only the apps you trust can access sensitive data like your microphone. Here\u2019s how with Android\u2019s built-in permission manager.<\/p>\n

Do note that this feature is only available on phones running Android 10 or above.<\/p>\n

Open the \u201cSettings\u201d menu on your Android phone or tablet from the app drawer or by tapping the gear icon in the notification panel.<\/p>\n

Go to \u201cApps and Notifications.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Navigate<\/p>\n

Select \u201cAdvanced\u201d to reveal more options and then head into the \u201cPermission Manager.\u201d<\/p>\n

Android devices have different settings layouts, depending on the manufacturer. Therefore, if you are not able to locate this menu, try instead looking up \u201cPermission Manager\u201d from the search bar at the top of the Settings menu.<\/p>\n

Inside the permission manager, you\u2019ll find a list of all the modules apps can request access to such as your phone\u2019s call logs, location, microphone, SMS, and more. Under each permission\u2019s name, Android shows how many apps have the right to read it.<\/p>\n

When you tap any of these permissions, you can check which apps are allowed to access it and which ones you have denied.<\/p>\n

\"Manage<\/p>\n

In case you discover an app with a permission it\u2019s not supposed to have, you can instantly revoke it by tapping the app\u2019s name in the \u201cAllowed\u201d section and then switching to the \u201cDeny\u201d option.<\/p>\n

\"Deny<\/p>\n

By default, Android doesn\u2019t display system-level apps in this tool. To include them just like the rest of the third-party apps, tap the three-dot menu icon inside a permission\u2019s list and select the \u201cShow System\u201d button.<\/p>\n

\"Show<\/p>\n

However, keep in mind that you often won\u2019t be able to deny permission to a system-level app because it may be essential for your phone to function. For instance, you can revoke Google Play Services\u2019 access to your calendar, but you can\u2019t revoke the \u201cPhysical Activity\u201d permission as it\u2019s possibly needed for emergency services.<\/p>\n
