\n Schools in Baltimore will shut down for two days this week \u2014 and a ransomware attack, not the coronavirus, is to blame.<\/p>\n

The Baltimore County Public Schools tweeted Saturday that there will be no classes Monday and Tuesday<\/a> due to the computer breach.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis provides much-needed time for our staff to continue working to set up the instructional platform and to communicate next steps regarding devices,\u201d BCPS said of the two-day hiatus.<\/p>\n

The school district\u2019s remote learning program, its website, and its email and grading systems all fell under cyber attack last week, WBAL-TV reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The district\u2019s information technology<\/a> department first identified the attack on Tuesday and notified staff early Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Elena Lomicky, a kindergarten teacher, knew something was wrong when her school\u2019s principal told staff not to log into their computers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a little panic because I\u2019m not tech-savvy at all,\u201d the Villa Cresta Elementary School teacher told WBAL. \u201cIt was alarming.\u201d<\/p>\n

The BCPS is working with the Baltimore County Police Department in the criminal investigation.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
