“#Enter the war on Thanksgiving<\/strong>”

\n In the left\u2019s ongoing rush to attack everything about America, Thanksgiving has now become a pretext for vandalism in the name of \u201cjustice.\u201d<\/p>\n

You see, the first Thanksgiving famously involved members of the Wampanoag tribe sharing with the Plymouth settlers \u2014 so entitled radicals have decided the holiday is the perfect time to destroy stuff in the name of Native American rights.<\/p>\n

Thursday night in Portland, Ore., a pack from the city\u2019s now-vast reserves of protesters did several thousand dollars\u2019 worth of damage to local businesses and toppled a statue honoring US soldiers.<\/p>\n

Chicago rioters tried to take down a statue of President William McKinley. Protesters in Spokane, Wash., sprayed red paint on a statue of Abraham Lincoln. And in Minneapolis, a crowd vandalized and toppled a George Washington statue and wrote \u201cno more genocide\u201d on the city\u2019s Pioneer Statue.<\/p>\n

\u201cLand back\u201d was spray-painted or worse upon buildings and statues across the country: It\u2019s the slogan of a sanctimonious campaign against \u201cwhite supremacy,\u201d with superstitious environmentalist nostrums thrown in.<\/p>\n

And for the hard left, any grievance is now license for a rampage. Worse, liberaldom is eager to pander to this garbage: The New York Times dutifully chimed in with its own efforts to \u201ccorrect\u201d the \u201cmyth\u201d of Thanksgiving by teaching high schoolers that the holiday is based on universal \u201chistorical amnesia.\u201d<\/p>\n

In reality, no one ever said you have to believe that the original settlers were perfect in order to enjoy a feast with family every November. (That said, the Wampanoag and Plymouth colony remained at peace for half a century after that first Thanksgiving.)<\/p>\n

This idiocy is fast making Columbus Day parades a thing of the past. Don\u2019t be surprised if progressive officials in a few years start lecturing us that the Thanksgiving feast of celebration should be become a fast of mourning and self-flagellation.<\/p>\n

For the record, we spent the holiday with family or small groups of friends, expressing thanks for the gifts we\u2019ve received even in this difficult year. That sentiment should never be cause for political division.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
