\n Universal Studios Japan has set a release date for the Nintendo portion of its park, which has been under construction for several years at this point. The \u201cland,\u201d called Super Nintendo World, will open on February 4, 2021. I would be the very first in line when they cut the ribbon, but for the global pandemic. So I really need that thing to go away so I can enjoy some real life Mario-theme<\/a>d shenanigans.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg got a look at the\u00a0Mario Kart<\/em>-themed ride, which will apparently involve an AR headset so that you can visualize the race going on around the roller coaster. Supposedly, you\u2019ll be able to do things like throw shells at your fellow racers and use power-ups. It looks pretty amazing, I\u2019m not going to lie, even if the notion of putting on a used AR headset gives me the heebie-jeebies.<\/p>\n

I mean, if you love\u00a0Mario<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 and almost\u00a0everyone does, if only in a begrudging\u00a0nostalgic way \u2014 then this\u00a0park would be\u00a0cool enough, but the fact that it\u2019s\u00a0overall\u00a0Nintendo-themed makes me\u00a0wonder what other kinds of attractions we can expect. Will there be\u00a0Zelda<\/em>-themed archery booths? Performers in costume? Can I take a picture with Marth? It sounds like a great time for game<\/a>rs, and I can\u2019t wait to visit.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s just one problem, and it\u2019s the \u201cjust one problem\u201d that\u2019s ruined the entirety of 2020: COVID-19. With the sickness still making life miserable for everyone, it\u2019d be irresponsible of me to go anywhere that will have lots of people from whom I probably won\u2019t be able to maintain a safe social<\/a> distance. While I have not had COVID myself (that I know of), with my luck I\u2019d be Patient Zero in a new outbreak and infecting Video Game Disney World is not something I need on my conscience<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So there\u2019s only one thing to do: hope\u00a0really hard\u00a0<\/em>that this pandemic finally fucks off by February so I can go visit the park. Or shortly thereafter, I suppose.<\/p>\n

Now, obviously I want this pandemic to end for reasons beyond my own edification \u2014 the pandemic has claimed the lives of almost 1.5 million people worldwide (by my last count), and ruined the lives of countless others. I don\u2019t\u00a0need\u00a0<\/em>more reason to want it to be over \u2014 but the fact remains I now have one, regardless.<\/p>\n

Super Nintendo World will be an add-on to Universal Studios Japan, in Osaka.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
