\n A White House adviser said President Trump\u2019s comments about a slow-down in coronavirus testing during a campaign rally in Oklahoma were clearly \u201ctongue in cheek.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was tongue in cheek,\u201d trade adviser Peter Navarro said on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d on Sunday. \u201cCome on now. That was tongue in cheek, please.\u201d<\/p>\n

CNN host Jake Tapp<\/a>er pushed back, saying testing is a \u201cvery serious issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a light moment, OK?\u201d Navarro responded.<\/p>\n

Pressed further, Navarro said, \u201call right, we\u2019re 60 seconds into a tongue in cheek thing, asked and answered.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what\u2019s important going on in this world today are things like John Bolton leaking, publishing a book. Here\u2019s the breaking news<\/a> for you,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

The president, speaking at his first campaign rally since March on Saturday, told the crowd in Tulsa that coronavirus testing is a \u201cdouble-edged sword.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have tested now 25 million people. It is probably 20 million people more than anybody else,\u201d he said. \u201cHere\u2019s the bad part. When you test to that extent, you are going to find more people, find more cases. So I said to my people, \u2018Slow the testing down please.\u2019 They test and they test.\u201d<\/p>\n

Acting Department of Homeland Security Director Chad Wolf on Sunday said Trump\u2019s remarks were brought on by frustration that the media<\/a> fails to cover his accomplishments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that what you heard from the president was frustration, frustration in the sense of that we are testing, I believe we\u2019ve tested over 25 million Americans. We\u2019ve tested more than any other country in this world,\u201d he said on CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead, the press and others, all they want to focus on is an increasing case count. And we know that that\u2019s going to occur when you test individuals more and more and more.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
