President Trump\u2019s 2016 campaign associate Carter Page claims in a new lawsuit that an FBI agent used a fake name during interviews \u2014 another potential breach of protocol in the FBI\u2019s Russia investigation. <\/p>\n

Page, an energy industry consultant who worked in Russia before joining Trump\u2019s campaign as an adviser, alleges \u201cunlawful spying\u201d in a lawsuit filed Friday against federal agencies and officials. <\/p>\n

Page says FBI agent Stephen Somma introduced himself as Steve Holt during five interviews. <\/p>\n

Former FBI agent\u00a0James Gagliano, who worked 25 years at the bureau, including in supervisory roles,\u00a0told The Daily Caller<\/a> that he had \u201cnever heard of an FBI agent going undercover as a different FBI agent\u201d and \u201cI\u2019d never have authorized it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FBI did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n

Page was surveilled under warrants from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. The FBI\u2019s warrant app<\/a>lications included information from opposition research financed by Hillary Clinton\u2019s campaign and the Democratic National Committee.<\/p>\n

The Justice Department inspector general<\/a> last year\u00a0found \u201csignificant\u00a0inaccuracies and\u00a0omissions\u201d\u00a0in documents submitted by the FBI to the FISA court and a former FBI lawyer,\u00a0Kevin Clinesmith, pleaded guilty\u00a0in August to falsifying records to the court.<\/p>\n

Special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s investigation found no evidence of Trump-Russia collusion. Page never was charged with a crime.<\/p>\n

Trump routinely invokes the FBI\u2019s treatment of Page as evidence of improper and allegedly politically motivated conduct against his campaign.<\/p>\n

Trump last week pardoned his former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was seeking to withdraw a guilty plea for lying to two FBI agents, including disgraced anti-Trump official Peter Strzok, about the content of his post-election calls with Russia\u2019s ambassador.<\/p>\n

Republicans said transcripts of those calls, released in May, indicate there was nothing improper about the underlying content of Flynn\u2019s talks, which were made with the knowledge of other Trump transition officials.<\/p>\n

In Flynn\u2019s case, former FBI Director James\u00a0Comey\u00a0publicly acknowledged<\/a>\u00a0he skirted standard protocol by sending agents including Strzok to interview\u00a0Flynn\u00a0days into Trump\u2019s administration without informing the\u00a0White\u00a0House\u00a0counsel\u2019s office. Senior Justice Department leaders also were cut out of the decision, which then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates said frustrated her.\n <\/div>\n
