Neera Tanden, Joe Biden\u2019s pick to run the Office of Management and Budget, \u201cis famous for two things,\u201d notes Matt Taibbi at his TK News site<\/a>: \u201cHaving a puddle of DNC talking points in place of a cerebrum, and \u00addespising Bernie Sanders.\u201d For years, she\u2019s spent \u201cawe-inspiring amounts of time on Twitter<\/a> bludgeoning Sanders and his supporters as a deviant mob of Russian tools and covert \u2018horseshoe-theory\u2019 Trump-lovers.\u201d The Democratic establishment \u201chas always despised Bernie . . . far more than it hated Republicans, and for good reason\u201d: His victory would displace \u201chundreds, if not thousands, of Clintonite hacks\u201d from their \u201ccushy Washington sinecures.\u201d Now \u201cBiden\u2019s team feels like absolute continuity with the last three decades of Wall Street-friendly Democratic politics.\u201d<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Don\u2019t Cry for Cash-Strapped States<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you \u201cshed tears\u201d for states and cities begging for a federal bailout, \u201clet them be crocodile tears,\u201d snarks Veronique de Rugy at Reason<\/a>. State and local governments already got \u201chuge\u201d COVID-19 aid from Uncle Sam, plus regular funding that covers 30 percent of state budgets. \u201cGovernments should prepare for emergencies by cutting spending during flush times.\u201d If their \u201crainy-day funds\u201d prove inadequate, they should tap their own residents for more. Places like New York and Illinois \u201cneed to be bailed out during every emergency\u201d yet fail to address this issue during good times. \u201cSo the next time you hear a sad story about states and cities that have to cut composting programs,\u201d absent federal aid, \u201ccheer up. The lesson will serve them well.\u201d <\/p>\n

From the right: How To Stop Paris for Good<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before he leaves office, President Trump can do one thing to forestall Joe Biden\u2019s destructive green agenda: ensure the Paris climate accord, which Biden wants to rejoin, lacks \u201cany binding legal power,\u201d Steve Milloy argues in The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. How? By preemptively submitting the accord to the Senate, where \u201cMajority Leader Mitch McConnell should schedule a quick vote.\u201d That way, a federal court can\u2019t \u201csubsequently resurrect a legislatively tossed treaty,\u201d as happened with President Barack Obama\u2019s DACA immigration order \u2014 rescinded by Trump but revived by an activist judiciary. Culture critic: Darth Vader, RIP<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDavid Prowse, the bodybuilder from Bristol, England, who played Darth Vader in the original \u2018Star Wars\u2019 trilogy, died of COVID-19\u201d on Saturday, reports the National Post\u2019s Colby Cosh<\/a>. \u201cDarth Vader is a staple of global culture, a byword for cinematic evil,\u201d and so \u201cthe most famous person to succumb to the pandemic by some distance.\u201d Yet most people don\u2019t \u201cthink of Dave Prowse as Darth Vader,\u201d since so many contributed to the character who was famously voiced by James Earl Jones. Prowse got the job thanks to \u201chis physique. He stood 6-6 and worked out; at that time, and especially on that side of the Atlantic, this made him as unusual as any circus performer.\u201d But \u201cProwse had to do the work\u201d in \u201ca fussy, awkward outfit\u201d and \u201clearned all of Vader\u2019s dialogue.\u201d And the \u201cancient traditions of the acting profession\u201d hold \u201cthe performer who first plays a role, and not the writer or the director, is referred to as its creator.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Give Up the Voter Fraud Story<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Trump on Sunday escalated his voter-fraud claims, speculating on Fox News<\/a> that \u201cthe US Department of Justice and FBI may be \u00adinvolved in the effort to steal the election from him,\u201d writes National \u00adReview\u2019s Jim Geraghty<\/a>. But contrary to Trump\u2019s endless tweets, \u201chis legal team\u2019s much more limited efforts, disputing much smaller numbers of votes, have almost entirely failed.\u201d Trump urges Republicans to vote in the Georgia Senate runoff, but what \u201cis the point of voting if the elections are rigged, as the president insists?\u201d For the good of his party, the president needs to put an end to the whole \u201cstolen-election narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n
