Netflix has picked up\u00a0Stowaway<\/em><\/strong>, a sci-fi film featuring\u00a0Anna Kendrick<\/strong> (A Simple Favor, Pitch Perfect<\/i>), Toni Collette<\/strong> (Velvet Buzzsaw, Hereditary<\/i>), Daniel Dae Kim<\/strong> (Hawaii Five-O, Lost, Always Be My Maybe<\/i>), and Shamier Anderson<\/strong> (Race, Destroyer<\/i>). The\u00a0Joe Penna<\/strong>-directed movie involves a mission to Mars gone wrong. Netflix will release the pic in the US, UK, Australia\/New Zealand, India, Latin America, Africa, and select other countries in Asia and Europe.<\/p>\n

Streaming giant Netflix announced today that it will premiere\u00a0Stowaway<\/em>, a film that used to be set up at Sony.\u00a0Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette, Daniel Dae Kim, and Shamier Anderson star, with Joe Penna directing a script<\/a> he co-wrote with\u00a0Ryan Morrison<\/strong>. Penna and Morrison also worked on Arctic<\/em>, the 2018 film starring\u00a0 Mads Mikkelsen. As for Stowaway<\/em>, the film is already in the can, having shot in 2019 in Germany at Bavaria Studios in Munich and at MMC Studios in Cologne, with VFX handled by RISE | Visual Effects Studios. Producers include\u00a0Aram Tertzakian, Nick Spicer, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo and Ulrich Schwarz. Executive producers are\u00a0Maxime Cottray, Nate Bolotin, Ryan Morrison and Philipp Stendebach. The production companies behind the flick are\u00a0XYZ Films, Augenstein Filmproduktion, RISE PICTURES, and RainMaker Films.
\nHere\u2019s a synopsis:<\/p>\n

On a mission headed to Mars, an unintended stowaway (Anderson) accidentally causes severe damage to the spaceship\u2019s life support systems. Facing dwindling resources and a potentially grim outcome, a medical researcher (Kendrick) emerges as the only dissenting voice against the clinical logic of both her commander (Collette) and the ship\u2019s biologist (Kim).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This premise \u2013 one crew member turning against a captain on a ship \u2013 is nothing new, really. It\u2019s the set-up of\u00a0Mutiny of the Bounty<\/em>, and it\u2019s also used in\u00a0Crimson Tide<\/em>. The difference here, of course, is that the ship is in space, so there\u2019s that. And while Kendrick is known more for comedic work at this point, the synopsis makes it sound as if\u00a0Stowaway<\/em> is going to be played straight. That\u2019s fine \u2013 all I ask is that we get at least one scene where Toni Collette loses her shit and yells at everyone. Please.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no word yet on when we might see\u00a0Stowaway<\/em>, but it obviously won\u2019t be anytime in 2020. Unless Netflix wants to drop the film this month without warning, which\u00a0could<\/em> happen but probably won\u2019t. The best bet is that we\u2019ll see\u00a0Stowaway<\/em> sometime in 2021, so keep an eye out for it.<\/p>\n
