The article noted the tumble coincided with today\u2019s news of a second COVID relief bill being discussed in Congress and the recommencement of negotiations between the U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The piece contrasted the falling dollar with the rising price of Bitcoin which briefly surpassed all-time highs for the second day in a row on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I certainly didn\u2019t expect to see a headline like this from mainstream press. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/istPVkw9Sc\">pic.twitter.com\/istPVkw9Sc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dan Held (@danheld) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danheld\/status\/1333887566777561089?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 1, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\u201cLooks like a headline from 2024,\u201d remarked Erik Voorhees, CEO of ShapeShift and long-time Bitcoin advocate, in a<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ErikVoorhees\/status\/1333894790266703873\"> tweet<\/a> about Reuters\u2019 headline. \u201c\u2026 but I guess we should assume it won&#8217;t be one headline, but many over the coming years.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Some Bitcoiners <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/0x_multipass\/status\/1333905447439503362\">compared<\/a> the Reuters headline with that of the famed headline from The Times that is embedded in the Bitcoin genesis block: &#8220;Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks&#8221;, noting the significance of the changes between now and then. <\/p>\n<p>Historically speaking, Reuters isn\u2019t known for its positive coverage of Bitcoin, but this may be changing. Last week the news agency published a<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKBN2841J6\"> story<\/a> examining the likelihood of a $100,000 price target for Bitcoin by the end of 2021, and the week before came a<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-crypto-currencies-analysis\/analysis-another-bitcoin-bubble-this-time-its-different-backers-hope-idUSKBN27Y2L1\"> story<\/a> about how this year\u2019s \u201cbubble\u201d is different to 2017\u2019s. <\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Dollar Index is a measure of the value of USD relative to a basket of other currencies; the Euro, Japanese yen, Pound sterling, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona and Swiss franc. <\/p>\n<p>Starting at a relative value of 100 in 1973, the<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/DX-Y.NYB\/\"> index<\/a> reached an all-time high of 151 in October 1984 and an all-time low of 71.8 in April 2008. It currently sits at 91.1 &#8212; a low not witnessed for more than two and a half years.<\/p>\n<p>The USD has also fallen relative to a number of other currencies and heavily traded assets over the years, including many commodities and stocks. The devaluation of the dollar via inflation was sped up this year by the U.S. government\u2019s attempts to provide COVID-19 relief in the form of economic stimulus, which according to experts, is helping to drive the price of BTC to all-time highs.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
