to online shopping during COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p> With 100 million monthly active users in more than 100 countries, Wish<br \/>\n        WISH,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\"><\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       says it is the most <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download<\/a>ed shopping app, and aims to bring its users a wide selection of affordable products. Wish has more than 500,000 merchants selling 150 million items to customers. About 1.8 million items are sold daily.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       ContextLogic was incorporated in Delaware in 2010 and is based in San Francisco. It will trade on the Nasdaq with the symbol \u201cWISH.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lead underwriters include Goldman Sachs &amp; Co., JPMorgan and BofA Securities. The company will offer Class A and Class B common stock. Prior to launching the company, he held a number positions at Google Inc.<br \/>\n        GOOG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205453964\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.12%<\/bg-quote><\/p>\n<p>        GOOGL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202490156\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.33%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       Others among the executive leadership have also previously held positions at <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> companies, including Chief Financial Officer Rajat Bahri, who was previously at Jasper Technologies, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Counsel Devang Shah, who worked at Zynga Inc.<br \/>\n        ZNGA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209662259\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.12%<\/bg-quote>\n      <\/p>\n<p>As of Sept. 30, ContextLogic had 828 full-time employees<br \/>\nacross eight companies, 417 of which are in research and development or related<br \/>\nactivities.<\/p>\n<p>The mobile commerce market was $2.1 trillion in 2019 and is projected to reach $4.5 trillion by 2024, according to the Wish prospectus. As consumers make the shift to e-commerce during the coronavirus pandemic, experts like Adobe Inc.<br \/>\n        ADBE,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200389143\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.14%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       have seen mobile sales leap during the holiday season. <\/p>\n<p>More than 90% of the user activity and purchases on the Wish<br \/>\nplatform are on the mobile app.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See:<\/strong> Cyber Monday 2020 expected to be the biggest online sales day in U.S. history, reaching as much as $12.7 billion: Adobe <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>E-commerce has traditionally focused on affluent shoppers. However, growth will come from consumers on the lower end of the economic spectrum, Wish said, particularly among the shoppers from emerging economies across Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe, where they approximate the average household income at $18,000 annually. Excluding China and India, the company estimates that there are more than 1 billion households globally with income of less than $75,000 a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that the next billion e-commerce customers will<br \/>\nbe these value-conscious consumers,\u201d the prospectus said.<\/p>\n<p>Wish revenue has grown from $1.1 billion in 2017 to $1.9<br \/>\nbillion in 2019. For the first nine months of 2020, sales totaled $1.7 billion.<br \/>\nMarketplace services make up the majority of revenue (93%). The company also<br \/>\noffers an advertising tool, ProductBoost, which allows merchants to promote<br \/>\ntheir listings on user feeds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Watch:<\/strong> How to pick winners in the retail sector amid the pandemic <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe largest e-commerce companies in the world were created on desktop, and their consumer experiences are predominantly search-driven rather than discovery-based,\u201d the Wish prospectus said.<\/p>\n<p>Among the biggest e-commerce companies are Amazon.com Inc.<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.64%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Shopify Inc.<br \/>\n        SHOP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209033712\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.95%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.<br \/>\n        BABA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/201948298\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.24%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       all companies that Wish identifies as competition. Wish also says it\u2019s competing with discount retailers like Walmart Inc.<br \/>\n        WMT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207374728\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.09%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Dollar General Inc.<br \/>\n        DG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200691429\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.57%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and off-price retailers like TJX Cos.<br \/>\n        TJX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203136811\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.15%<\/bg-quote>\n      <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur platform is designed to make it easy to navigate a vast<br \/>\nselection of products when users do not have a specific item or brand in mind,\u201d<br \/>\nthe prospectus said. \u201cOver 70% of the sales on our platform do not involve a<br \/>\nsearch query and instead come from personalized browsing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wish also uses <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> features, gaming techniques and interactive tools to make the experience entertaining. The company said Wish users spent an average of more than nine minutes per day on the platform during the 12 months ending Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also:<\/strong> Gap\u2019s Old Navy and Athleta brands are leading the company\u2019s turnaround <\/p>\n<p> Wish launched Wish Local in 2019 to help bricks-and-mortar merchants grow their business online. Wish Local now has nearly 50,000 partners who also serve as pickup locations for orders. Growing this part of the business could be costly, the company warns. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are five other things to know about ContextLogic and the Wish platform:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The company has never paid a dividend, and doesn\u2019t plan to. <\/strong>\u201cWe currently intend to retain all available funds and any future earnings for use in the operation of our business and do not anticipate paying any cash dividends in the foreseeable future,\u201d the prospectus said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wish has incurred operating losses since it launched.<\/strong> In 2017, net losses totaled $207 million; in 2018, net losses were $208 million; and in 2019, losses totaled $129 million. <\/p>\n<p>For the first nine months of 2020, losses were $176 million.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most of the company\u2019s merchants are China-based.<\/strong> \u201cWe initially grew our platform focusing on merchants in China, the world\u2019s largest exporter of goods for the last decade,\u00a0due to these merchants\u2019 strength in selling quality products at competitive prices,\u201d Wish said in its prospectus.<\/p>\n<p>Soured relations between the U.S. and China could also impact Wish\u2019s business. <\/p>\n<p>The company has been focused on expanding its merchant\u00a0base in other countries, with the number of merchants from North America, Europe and Latin America growing 234% since 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wish spends a lot on marketing. <\/strong>For the year ending Dec. 31, 2019, the company spent $1.5 billion on sales and marketing, about 78% of total revenue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t miss:<\/strong> Nordstrom shares soar with one analyst group upbeat about the luxury retailer\u2019s post-COVID prospects <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe anticipate that sales<br \/>\nand marketing expenses will continue to comprise a substantial majority of our<br \/>\noverall operating costs for the foreseeable future,\u201d the prospectus said. \u201cWe<br \/>\nhave historically acquired a significant number of our users through digital<br \/>\nadvertising on platforms and websites owned by Facebook and Google, which may<br \/>\nterminate their agreements with us anytime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company also relies on the<br \/>\nApple app store and the Google Play store to promote and offer its app.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wish is dependent on its merchants to provide a good customer experience. <\/strong>Wish\u2019s brand and reputation are dependent on the products and customer service its merchants provide, including delivery, the sale of authentic products and any recalls or product liability claims that merchants may experience. <\/p>\n<p>The company has policies in<br \/>\nplace to maintain a standard of business, but has no guarantee that all<br \/>\nmerchants will follow the rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMerchants on our platform<br \/>\nhave in the past, and may in the future, engage in fictitious transactions or<br \/>\ncollaborate with third parties in order to artificially inflate their sales<br \/>\nrecords and search results rankings,\u201d the company said.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"byline article__byline\">\n<p>      <span>By<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"author  hasMenu\" data-scrim='{\"type\":\"author\",\"header\":\"Tonya Garcia\",\"subhead\":\"The Wall Street Journal\",\"list\":[]}' itemscope itemprop=\"author\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Person\">\n<h4 itemprop=\"name\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tonya_Garcia\"><\/span>Tonya Garcia<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
