Former special counsel Robert Mueller sat down for a rare, extensive interview that debuts Wednesday \u2014 but doesn\u2019t include a single question about his role in the Russia investigation.<\/p>\n

The 76-year-old longest serving FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover was a guest on the podcast \u201cThe Oath\u201d hosted by Chuck Rosenberg, a former federal prosecutor who worked for Mueller as an FBI counsel.<\/p>\n

The two nearly hour-long episodes are void of any discussion of Mueller\u2019s time as special counsel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are some questions that you simply don\u2019t have to ask,\u201d Rosenberg told The Associated Press. \u201cI knew he wouldn\u2019t talk about it and I had really no intention of asking about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, Mueller fields questions on other matters \u2014 by giving short answers. <\/p>\n

\u201cI did OK,\u201d he responded, when Rosenberg tried drawing him out about commendations he received during training with the Marines.<\/p>\n

Did Mueller like law school?<\/p>\n

\u201cNot particularly,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

Now in its fourth season, \u201cThe Oath\u201d features current and former government officials who are interviewed about their lives and careers \u2014 but the conversation steers clear of political controversies and current events.<\/p>\n

Mueller\u2019s interview comes on the heels of former FBI director James Comey\u2019s app<\/a>earance on the podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cJim is a natural storyteller, so in some ways it is easier (to interview him),\u201d Rosenberg said. \u201cBob also has a lot of stories to tell, you just have to let him tell them in his own way. I found that compelling \u2014 two very different styles, as our listeners will notice, but I think two men of substance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rosenberg acknowledged that with Mueller, \u201cthere\u2019s a bit of a Marine Corps officer outer shell.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe can be a little bit intimidating,\u201d he added. \u201cBut underneath all of that, he is a remarkably kind and humble and civil man. Coming up in the ranks of the Department of Justice, Bob Mueller is an icon. Everybody that I worked with knew of him and admired him, but often from a distance.\u201d<\/p>\n
