Foreign desk: Why Biden Will Restart Iran Deal<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joe Biden \u201cwill move quickly to lift sanctions\u201d against Tehran, predicts Lee Smith at Tablet,<\/a> so the suspended nuke deal can be \u201ccompleted.\u201d That deal \u201cwas never about the Middle East,\u201d which opposed it, but part of an American \u201cworldview\u201d President Barack Obama expounds in his latest memoir. For Obama-ians, America is a place \u201cwithout borders,\u201d where \u201cBig Tech oligarchs, social<\/a>-media warriors and powerful bureaucrats join hands.\u201d The deal \u201cis a central component of that\u201d: Empowering a regime that\u2019s \u201canti-American at its core\u201d will help bring the real, nation-state America \u201cto heel, so it can be transformed into the America\u201d Obama envisions.<\/p>\n

Media watch: Paul Krugman\u2019s \u2018Easy Paycheck\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a recent New York Times column, Paul Krugman complained that Joe Biden will \u201cbe the first modern US president trying to govern in the face of an opposition that refuses to accept his legitimacy,\u201d prompting The Spectator\u2019s pseudonymous Cockburn<\/a> to wonder if Krugman even reads his own columns. The Timesman in 2016 called President Trump\u2019s victory \u201cillegitimate in important ways\u201d and the result of a \u201ctainted election,\u201d as he \u201cwon the Electoral College only thanks to foreign intervention and grotesquely inapp<\/a>ropriate, partisan behavior on the part of domestic law \u00adenforcement.\u201d Others who called Trump \u201cillegitimate\u201d include Hillary Clinton, Rep. John Lewis and a host of pundits. All of which shows Krugman is a \u201clazy writer who just says whatever goes to get an easy paycheck.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: Dems\u2019 Vaccine Fearmongering<\/strong><\/p>\n

That two COVID-19 vaccines are ready for FDA approval \u201cis a rebuke to the cynical fearmongering that liberals pushed surrounding vaccine \u00addevelopment in the run-up to the election,\u201d argue the editors at the Washington Examiner<\/a>. Of those spreading the \u201cabsurd theory\u201d that President Trump would force the release of an untested vaccine, \u201cno one was more irresponsible than Vice President-elect Kamala Harris,\u201d who suggested \u00adexperts would have no say in testing and raised doubts about vaccine safety \u2014 deceptions \u201cmeant to scare up votes and downplay legitimate progress on the vaccine front.\u201d Now Democrats will \u201cattempt to memory-hole their reckless and baseless fearmongering from the fall. But we should not forget it, because it speaks to their cynicism and their character as leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the left: A True Swamp Creature<\/strong><\/p>\n

At his Substack blog, Glenn Greenwald seethes<\/a> at Joe Biden\u2019s choice for Office of Management and Budget director, Neera Tanden \u2014 \u201ca thoroughly mediocre and ordinary DC swamp creature from the perspective of both ideology and competence.\u201d What has riled up both right and left is \u201cTanden\u2019s uniquely unhinged, venomous, corrupt and pathologically dishonest conduct as a Clinton Family and DNC apparatchik and president of the corporatist-and-despot-funded Center for American Progress\u201d: Among other things, she allegedly punched a CAP staffer after he dared ask Hillary Clinton about her support for the Iraq War; spent the last four years pumping toxic conspiracy theories about \u201ccollusion\u201d; and viciously attacked Bernie Sanders and his supporters. \u201cHer face serves as an undeniable and unavoidable reminder of what the Biden administration and the Democratic Party really are. She illuminates the truth about their real aims.\u201d<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Powell\u2019s Mythical Massive Fraud<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to release the Kraken,\u201d former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell \u00advowed last month, recalls Reason\u2019s Jacob Sullum<\/a>, who notes she meant \u201coverwhelming evidence that supposedly would validate her claim\u201d of massive fraud in last month\u2019s election. In fact, her \u201clawsuits challenging the election results in Michigan and Georgia\u201d are \u201cat least as hideous as the beast of legend and equally mythical,\u201d with \u201cthe same sort of dubious evidence that has failed to impress courts across the country.\u201d Her Michigan lawsuit, for one, alleges \u201cthe unlawful counting, or manufacturing, of hundreds of thousands of illegal, ineligible, duplicate or purely fictitious ballots\u201d \u2014 but her evidence \u201coverlaps a lot with affidavits\u201d already submitted in a rejected suit that a judge found were \u201cnot credible,\u201d \u201cbased on misunderstandings, offered unsubstantiated suspicions or failed to make specific, checkable allegations.\u201d <\/p>\n
