But it\u2019s Miyazaki\u2019s son, Goro Miyazaki, who will direct the studio\u2019s first film in 7 years, and Studio Ghibli\u2019s first-ever fully CG-animated feature,\u00a0<strong><em>Earwig and the Witch<\/em><\/strong>. I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. But this first trailer for\u00a0<strong><em>Earwig and the Witch<\/em><\/strong> doesn\u2019t give me much confidence in Ghibli\u2019s first foray into 3D animation. The first images from the film already clued us into the film\u2019s\u00a0dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointing\u00a0art style (it\u2019s like the filmmakers tried to translate Ghibli\u2019s signature hand-drawn animation style to 3D and it doesn\u2019t work), but I was willing to chalk it up to unfinished animation and rendering. But the trailer, which should be as close to the finished product as we\u2019d get, looks like an un-rendered video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>. The lighting is flat, the colors are stale, and the animation just looks bad.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not anti-CG animation in particular, though I have a particular fondness for the hand-drawn animation that Studio Ghibli has helped turn into high art over the decades, and I\u2019m even intrigued to see the studio (and especially Goro Miyazaki, who shows a lot of potential but can\u2019t seem to find his own style) experiment with their house style beyond Hayao Miyazaki\u2019s big, looming shadow. But after seeing what\u00a0Marza Animation Planet and TMS Entertainment did with\u00a0<em>Lupin III: The First<\/em>, and how director\u00a0Takashi Yamazaki managed to capture the spirit of the 2D franchise in 3D animation, I feel like Ghibli could do so much better.<\/p>\n<p><em>Earwig and the Witch<\/em>\u00a0was initially set to premiere at this year\u2019s Cannes Film Festival, where it was part of the official selection, but that premiere was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. But Japanese audiences get to see the film when it airs on NHK in winter 2020, and U.S. audiences soon to follow next year.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the synopsis for\u00a0<em>Earwig and the Witch<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->Growing up in an orphanage, Earwig has no idea that her mother had magical powers.
