Back in 2019, Oscar Isaac<\/strong> declared that he would be happ<\/a>y to play Solid Snake in the\u00a0Metal Gear Solid<\/em> <\/strong>movie coming from\u00a0Kong: Skull Island<\/em> director\u00a0Jordan Vogt-Roberts<\/strong>. And now it looks like that\u2019s exactly what\u2019s happening. Isaac is now attached to star in the video game<\/a> adaptation as the character,\u00a0a former Green Beret and highly skilled special operations soldier engaged in solo stealth and espionage missions in a deeply unusual science<\/a> fiction world.<\/p>\n

Deadline has the scoop on Oscar Isaac playing Solid Snake in the\u00a0Metal Gear Solid<\/em> movie. This is a case of wish fulfillment for Isaac because back in 2019, the actor said: \u201cMetal Gear Solid<\/em>, that\u2019s the one I\u2019m \u2013 yeah. I\u2019m throwing my hat in for that one.\u201d After that news<\/a> broke, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts commented on the potential casting and even revealed a fan poster<\/a>\u00a0with Isaac in the role.
\nThe\u00a0Metal Gear<\/em>\u00a0video game series<\/a> was created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami, with the first game released in 1987. The games blend military realism, alternate history science fiction, and anime<\/a> craziness. Snake, who sometimes sports an eye-patch like Kurt Russell in\u00a0Escape from New York\u00a0<\/em>depending on the game,\u00a0is<\/a> a\u00a0\u201cformer Green Beret and a highly skilled special operations soldier engaged in solo stealth and espionage missions, who is often tasked with destroying models of the bipedal nuclear weapon-armed mecha known as Metal Gear.\u201d And honestly, that\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg. His backstory is\u2026weird.<\/p>\n

Vogt-Roberts is directing the\u00a0Metal Gear Solid<\/em> movie for Sony, with a script by\u00a0Derek Connolly<\/strong>. When asked by Collider<\/a> back in 2018 about his approach to the material, Vogt-Roberts said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing about Metal Gear is it\u2019s intentionally sprawling and it\u2019s intentionally dense. It\u2019d be super easy to do one sliver of it or do too much at once. And we\u2019ve spent the last little bit really trying to figure out, to me, the most Kojima-san inspired way to tackle as much of that story through a device that I think allows you to tap in\u2026how to put this without spoiling it?\u2026regardless, we have a device that I think allows us to respect the breadth of the franchise, respect the sprawling nature of the franchise, respect the somewhat convoluted nature of the franchise at times. But to still show you the mirrors. What I mean by that is all those timelines fundamentally exist because they show the repetition of war throughout time. They show the repetition and the cycle of pain throughout time. So it\u2019s almost impossible to tell just one story now. You need the full throughline of what this game is about.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

However this movie turns out, here\u2019s hoping it embraces the weirdness of the games. For example: in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty<\/em>, the main boss is the President of the United States, and his right-hand man is also a vampire. Please, give me a movie with stuff like that. That\u2019s all I ask.<\/p>\n

Isaac is a busy guy right now. He\u2019s working on HBO\u2019s\u00a0Scenes From A Marriage<\/em>, is set to star in the Disney+ series\u00a0Moon Knight<\/em>, will be the lead in The Great Machine<\/em> (based on Brian K. Vaughn\u2019s\u00a0Ex Machina<\/em>\u00a0comic), and will be playing Francis Ford Coppola in a movie about the making of\u00a0The Godfather<\/em>. With all that in mind, it\u2019s unclear as to when he\u2019s going to shoot\u00a0Metal Gear Solid<\/em>.
