single day from the coronavirus illness COVID-19, and the nation\u2019s leading public health agency said there could be up to 19,500 deaths in the week ended Dec. 26. <\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said forecasts for deaths over the next four weeks that it received from 37 modeling groups created <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/covid-data\/forecasting-us.html\" class=\"icon none\">a so-called national ensemble forecast<\/a> that predicts 303,000 to 329,000 COVID-19 deaths in the four-week period. An ensemble forecast combines each of the independently developed forecasts into one aggregate forecast to improve prediction over the next four weeks. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state- and territory-level ensemble forecasts predict that over the next 4 weeks, the number of newly reported deaths per week will likely increase in 23 jurisdictions,\u201d the CDC said.<\/p>\n<p>President-elect Joe Biden said he plans to urge Americans to wear a face mask in public for 100 days after his inauguration in January. \u201cOn the first day I\u2019m inaugurated, I\u2019m going to ask the public for 100 days to mask. Just 100 days to mask \u2014 not forever, just 100 days. He said he\u2019s asked Fauci, viewed as the nation\u2019s top infectious-disease expert, to be a \u201cchief medical adviser\u201d as well as part of his COVID-19 advisory team.<\/p>\n<p>The moves mark a stark contrast to the pandemic approach of presidential lincumbent Donald Trump, who has played down the gravity of the crisis throughout, pooh-poohed the wearing of face masks to the point that many of his supporters continue to refuse to do so, said the virus <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/video\/politics\/40-times-trump-said-the-coronavirus-would-go-away\/2020\/04\/30\/d2593312-9593-4ec2-aff7-72c1438fca0e_video.html\" class=\"icon none\">would just disappear,<\/a> and belittled Fauci. Trump has made no comment in recent days as cases and deaths have set fresh records. Experts fear those records will be shattered in the next week or so, as infections caused by Thanksgiving <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> start to emerge. <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>The Transportation Security Administration screened more than 1 million passengers at airports on at least four days during the Thanksgiving period, the Associated Press reported. Vehicle travel was 20% lower than a year ago but peaked on Thanksgiving Day at just 5% less than in 2019, according to an analysis conducted by StreetLightData for the Associated Press. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople were less willing to change their behavior than any other day during the pandemic,\u201d Laura Schewel, founder of StreetLight Data, told the AP. <\/p>\n<p>If only a small percentage of those travelers were asymptomatically infected, it could mean hundreds of thousands of additional infections moving from one community to another, Dr. Cindy Friedman, a CDC official, said this week in a press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. recorded another 217,664 new cases on Thursday and at least 2,879 deaths, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.jhu.edu\/data\/cumulative-cases\" class=\"icon none\">data aggregated by Johns Hopkins University.<\/a> The U.S. has counted more than 100,000 new cases every day since the Nov. 3 election. <\/p>\n<p>There were a record of 100,667 COVID-19 patients in U.S. hospitals, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/covidtracking.com\/data\/national\/\" class=\"icon none\">the COVID Tracking Project,<\/a> breaking the high-water mark set a day earlier. The U.S. continues to lead the world by cases at 14.2 million, and deaths at 277,412. Gov. Gavin <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>om said four of the state\u2019s five regions \u2014 Northern California, Greater Sacramento, the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California (excluding only the Bay Area) \u2014 could meet that threshold \u201cwithin a day or two.\u201d A litany of changes would take effect, including closing hair salons, barber shops and movie theaters. Adjuvants are ingredients that can boost immune responses.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Italy is banning travel between towns over the Christmas holiday period, after the country recorded its highest daily death toll since the start of the outbreak, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/dec\/03\/italy-bans-travel-between-towns-over-christmas\" class=\"icon none\">the Guardian reported.<\/a> The ban will last from Dec. 20 to Jan. 6, with exemptions for work, health or emergency reasons.
