Well, you\u2019re in luck, because here comes the\u00a0<strong><em>Mank<\/em><\/strong> soundtrack! The score, composed by <strong>Trent Reznor<\/strong> and <strong>Atticus Ross<\/strong>, runs for 52 tracks, which is pretty damn long, even for a soundtrack.\u00a0<em>Mank<\/em>, <strong>David Fincher<\/strong>\u2018s film about the writing of\u00a0<em>Citizen Kane<\/em>, hits Netflix today, and with it comes the release of the soundtrack, which you can stream below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"encrypted-media\" title=\"Spotify Embed: Mank (Original Musical Score)\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/4bF6HoSA0B7FbkY1z8uTq5?si=AFANqTywTAaNfwhx9Itm1A\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->The\u00a0<em>Mank<\/em> soundtrack is now streaming on Spotify, and it\u2019s\u00a0<em>long<\/em>. It runs for 52 tracks at 1 hour and 33 minutes, bringing you wall-to-wall jazzy sounds courtesy of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. And if that\u2019s not long enough for you, you can purchase an even\u00a0<em>longer<\/em> version <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/trentreznor-atticusross.bandcamp.com\/album\/mank-original-musical-score-with-extras\">here<\/a>. It runs over 3 hours for 87 tracks. Yes, really.<\/p>\n<p>Reznor and Ross have worked with director David Fincher several times already, on\u00a0<em>The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> Network<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Gone Girl<\/em>. But the music that the duo created for\u00a0<em>Mank<\/em> is a bit different. It\u2019s not nearly as droning or ominous as those other scores \u2013 it swings, it bops, its blasts trumpet sounds into your ear holes.\u00a0Back when Reznor was first asked about the score, he confirmed that it was definitely going to be a change of pace. \u201cWe\u2019re not gonna be using the modular synthesizer on that one,\u201d the Nine Inch Nails frontman <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.revolvermag.com\/music\/nine-inch-nails-9-things-we-learned-our-visit-trent-reznors-studio\">said<\/a>. \u201cWe think we\u2019re gonna be period-authentic, so it just creates a new set of challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<em>Mank<\/em>, \u201c1930s Hollywood is re-evaluated through the eyes of scathing social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he races to finish the screenplay of Citizen Kane for Orson Welles.\u201d While there\u2019s plenty of buzz surrounding <em>Mank<\/em>, there\u2019s also been some backlash due to the film\u2019s portrayal of Mankiewicz as the sole author of the\u00a0<em>Kane<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>, a theory that was popularized by film critic Pauline Kael. Kael\u2019s claims have since been debunked, but the legend persists, and there\u2019s a concern among film fans that\u00a0<em>Mank<\/em> will popularize the \u201cOrson Welles didn\u2019t even write\u00a0<em>Citizen Kane<\/em>\u201d myth further.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, I enjoyed the film. Does it take liberties with history? Oh yes, there\u2019s a lot of fictionalization here. But that\u2019s standard practice for any biopic, so it\u2019s hard for me to take\u00a0<em>Mank<\/em> to task for doing the same. As I wrote in my review:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The script is punchy and not afraid to lean into melodrama, and Fincher is clearly having fun bringing his father\u2019s words to life. Much of the story here feels lifted from\u00a0film critic Pauline Kael\u2019s controversial \u201cRaising Kane\u201d essay, which lays all the work of\u00a0<em>Kane<\/em>\u00a0at Mankiewicz\u2019s feet and cuts Welles out of the equation. Several notable people have discredited the essay\u2019s claims, but no matter \u2013 it makes for a cracking good yarn. And a great movie.
