{"id":127048,"date":"2020-12-05T17:10:31","date_gmt":"2020-12-05T14:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/maya-wiley-staying-on-as-msnbc-expert-despite-nyc-mayoral-run\/"},"modified":"2020-12-05T17:10:31","modified_gmt":"2020-12-05T14:10:31","slug":"maya-wiley-staying-on-as-msnbc-expert-despite-nyc-mayoral-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/maya-wiley-staying-on-as-msnbc-expert-despite-nyc-mayoral-run\/","title":{"rendered":"#Maya Wiley staying on as MSNBC expert despite NYC mayoral run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Maya Wiley staying on as MSNBC expert despite NYC mayoral run<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Maya Wiley left a cushy contributor\u2019s job at MSNBC in July so she could launch her campaign for NYC mayor, but you\u2019d never know she exited the left-leaning network from all the airtime she continues to get.<\/p>\n<p>Since departing from her official role at the channel, the former counsel to Mayor de Blasio has made no fewer than 18 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earances \u2014 enraging her mayoral primary rivals and earning criticism from <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> ethicists. <\/p>\n<p>A Post review of clips found Wiley, 56, appears on shows across the network, mornings and evenings and on weekends. She is frequently introduced as a \u201clegal expert\u201d or professor at the New School. Her work for de Blasio comes up from time to time. But in some instances, she is identified by show anchors as a city mayoral candidate.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is getting more airtime than most of the other figures that have declared or said they\u2019re interested. It\u2019s a problematic leveraging of the relationship that she previously had with MSNBC,\u201d NYU Journalism Professor Mohamad Bazzi told The Post. \u201cAs Donald Trump taught all of us, these appearances are a gold mine.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Wiley most often appears as a pundit to comment on current events and offer up liberal red meat.  <\/p>\n<p>In an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/msnbc\/watch\/maya-wiley-corrects-giuliani-s-depiction-of-lawless-nyc-in-rnc-speech-90763845681\">Aug. 27 appearance<\/a> titled \u201cMaya Wiley corrects Giuliani\u2019s depiction of \u2018lawless\u2019 NYC in RNC speech,\u201d she offered her view of the Republican National Convention. In a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/am-joy\/watch\/roe-v-wade-s-fate-with-supreme-court-analyzed-by-legal-expert-92169285939\">Sept. 20 video appearance<\/a> she warned of the legal ramifications following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/11th-hour\/watch\/trump-s-been-ramping-up-his-election-attacks-for-over-a-month-92509765959\">On Sept. 24<\/a> she talked about the threat of President Trump potentially not accepting the results of the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"671\" alt=\"Maya Wiley on MSNBC\" class=\"wp-image-16748181 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/maya-wiley-web-edited.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/maya-wiley-web-edited.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/maya-wiley-web-edited.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/maya-wiley-web-edited.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/maya-wiley-web-edited.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1815 1815w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>When she is identified as a mayoral candidate, softball questions from ex-colleagues soon follow.<\/p>\n<p>During an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/morning-joe\/watch\/-i-believe-deeply-in-new-york-city-says-mayoral-candidate-93745221886\">Oct. 13 interview<\/a> about her campaign on \u201cMorning Joe,\u201d Wiley told host Mika Brzezinski, \u201cI couldn\u2019t imagine a better person to be discussing this with.\u201d The host allowed Wiley to practically monologue about her campaign and policy positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoining us now:@mayawiley who has announced she is running for mayor in New York City,\u201d the \u201cMorning Joe\u201d Twitter account <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Morning_Joe\/status\/1315983267510841344\">posted that day.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The network has not granted comparable airtime to Wiley\u2019s leading opponents in the race. City Comptroller Scott Stringer has not been on once since Wiley officially stepped down. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams appeared on air in July \u2014\u00a0but not since.<\/p>\n<p>The field for the June 22, 2021 Democratic primary for mayor has well over a dozen declared candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Wiley worked as a legal analyst for the network, appearing on multiple shows each week, from August 2018 until July, when she set up her campaign committee. The former chair of the city Civilian Complaint Review Board formally announced her mayoral run in October. She has the backing of current and former de Blasio staffers. <\/p>\n<p>Her arrangement on MSNBC has become a source of increasing irritation to Wiley\u2019s rivals. At least one major campaign has already complained to network management about the Wiley situation, a rival campaign staffer told The Post, requesting anonymity.<\/p>\n<p>The issue is delicate in the age of ranked-choice voting, as potential competitors struggle to take shots at opponents while still making themselves palatable as a second choice option to the supporters of those opponents. <\/p>\n<p>Campaign reps for Wiley\u2019s most serious rivals, Adams and Stringer, declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith New York facing so many challenges, all media outlets should make the effort to give equal time to all candidates so that New Yorkers can make informed decisions on their vote for mayor,\u201d city Councilman Carlos Menchaca, another mayoral aspirant who\u2019s gotten no MSNBC air time, told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>But he added, \u201cNew Yorkers will not elect a mayor because they had more appearances on MSNBC, but because they believe in the solutions we propose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC has lately become a revolving door for ambitious liberals seeking higher office \u2014 particularly as President-elect Biden prepares to move into the White House. <\/p>\n<p>Jon Meacham, a presidential historian and network contributor, was benched after it was revealed he was working as a Biden speechwriter. Richard Stengel, an NBC and MSNBC political analyst \u2014\u00a0and noted anti-free speech advocate \u2014 was tapped as the Biden transition \u201cTeam Lead\u201d for the US Agency for Global Media. Karine Jean-Pierre, yet another contributor, became Biden\u2019s principal deputy press secretary in August.   <\/p>\n<p>MSNBC declined to comment.
