“#New Jersey restaurant that hosted GOP gala closed by mayor<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A New Jersey restaurant that played host to a Republican gala Thursday evening has been shuttered by city officials.<\/p>\n

Jersey City mayor Steven Fulop posted the order closing Maritime Parc to his Twitter<\/a> accounts Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe establishment \u2026 has been ordered CLOSED until such time as the operators prepare and submit a written operational plan to the Jersey City Division of Environmental Health describing how they intend to comply with Governor Phil Murphy\u2019s Executive orders \u2026 regarding capacity mandates and mask wearing,\u201d the order reads<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In a statement to the Los Angeles Times<\/a>, Fulop said he took \u201cCovid enforcement very seriously,\u201d and called the GOP confab an \u201cegregious violation\u201d of statewide protocols designed to limit the spread of the deadly pandemic. <\/p>\n

The event, officially billed as a fundraiser, was put on by the New York Young Republican Club. A keynote address from former Alaska governor Sarah Palin was dropped amid mounting criticism of the event. She was later replaced by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz. <\/p>\n

Manhattan GOP Chairwoman Andrea Catsimatidis and right-wing provocateur James O\u2019Keefe were also in attendance. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is also beyond the pale that Rep Matt Putz \u2013 I mean @RepMattGaetz \u2013 would participate in this. What a fool,\u201d said Gov Murphy in a tweet.<\/a> \u201cMatt \u2013 You are not welcome in New Jersey, and frankly I don\u2019t ever want you back in this state.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that the event would also be investigated by law enforcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re gonna regret this tweet when you move to Florida like the rest of New Jersey,\u201d Gaetz shot back.<\/a><\/p>\n

Photos of the event<\/a> showed revelers to be mostly maskless. It\u2019s unclear how many people attended the event but at least 65 people had RSVPed on the group\u2019s Facebook page. There app<\/a>eared to be little social distancing. <\/p>\n

Gabriel Montalvo, a board member and activism chair of the New York Young Republican Club, said he had no regrets about attending the event. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a shame and an embarrassment that NJ Gov. Murphy threw a tantrum and had local officials and authorities close a business,\u201d he told The Post. \u201cIf BLM and Antifa can march \u2026 in the thousands and take over bridges, highways, and streets without any word about public safety from these same hypocrites, then there should be no reason why we cannot enjoy a dinner.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
