So you have tried sending emoji, stickers, and even GIFs as responses. But nothing quite captures your exact expression. Instagram DMs\u2019 selfie stickers solve this very important problem. Here\u2019s how to send selfie stickers (with animated emojis) on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Using Instagram\u2019s selfie stickers feature, you can create a short, expressive, animated sticker. You can record your expression or use an animated emoji overlay (with hearts, laughter emoji, and more).<\/p>\n

This feature is available with Instagram\u2019s cross-platform messaging update that brought the ability to message Facebook<\/a> friends to Instagram DMs. You can get this update from the Settings menu in your Instagram app<\/a> for iPhone<\/a> or Android<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Open the \u201cInstagram\u201d app and go to your \u201cProfile\u201d tab. Here, tap the hamburger menu button from the top-right corner of the screen. From there, go to Settings > Update Messaging.<\/p>\n

Here, tap the \u201cUpdate\u201d button to get the new features.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll now see a new icon for Instagram DMs in the top-right corner of the Instagram home screen. Tap the icon to open all your conversations.<\/p>\n

Now, choose a conversation.<\/p>\n

Here, tap the \u201c+\u201d icon next to the text box to see all options.<\/p>\n

From the list,\u00a0 select the \u201cSelfie\u201d feature.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll now see a new option for recording and sending a selfie sticker. Hold your phone in a position so that your entire face is visible in the sticker preview. Instagram automatically replaces the background with a colorful gradient.<\/p>\n

Try out an emoji overlay by choosing an emoji. When you\u2019re ready, tap the \u201cShutter\u201d button to record the emoji (you can also set a timer).<\/p>\n

Once recorded, the selfie sticker will replay in a loop (similar to the Boomerang feature).<\/p>\n

If you aren\u2019t happy with it, tap the \u201cRetake\u201d button to try again. If you liked this sticker, tap the \u201cSave Sticker\u201d button to save it. This way, you can reuse the same sticker again and again.<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019re happy, tap the \u201cSend\u201d button to share the sticker to the chat.<\/p>\n
