{"id":127268,"date":"2020-12-06T03:26:04","date_gmt":"2020-12-06T00:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/following-six-hour-outage-solana-draws-criticism-and-support\/"},"modified":"2020-12-06T03:26:04","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T00:26:04","slug":"following-six-hour-outage-solana-draws-criticism-and-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/following-six-hour-outage-solana-draws-criticism-and-support\/","title":{"rendered":"# Following six-hour outage, Solana draws criticism and support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong># Following six-hour outage, Solana draws criticism and support <\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjAtMTIvOTMwZWIyNDYtMzFkMS00NDc1LWJiMTEtNDFhYzVkYWMyYWZjLmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-5a136f3a>Yesterday, a nearly six hour network outage from Solana, a layer-one blockchain known for its high throughput, drew both jeers and support from traders and developers across the smart contract space.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roximately 1:46pm UTC on December 4th, 2020, the Solana Mainnet Beta cluster stopped producing blocks at slot 53,180,900, which prevented any new transactions from being confirmed,\u201d a live update blog post from Solana <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/solana-labs\/solana-network-update-live-updates-3acd3de261bc\">reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The outage lasted roughly five and a half hours before over 200 Solana network validators, representing over 80% of the stake weight of the network, successfully initiated network restart instructions and began producing blocks again. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to thank the passionate and diligent global network of validators who identified this issue and coordinated to restart the network,\u201d said the Solana team. <\/p>\n<p>A post-mortem on the network interruption is forthcoming. <\/p>\n<p>Solana\u2019s founder and CEO, Anatoly Yakovenko, has previously <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/podcast.coingecko.com\/719703\/5526409-building-the-fastest-lowest-latency-blockchain-with-anatoly-yakovenko-founder-and-ceo-at-solana-ep-20\">said<\/a> that he embraces competition between layer-one protocols, and that it can help to breed \u201cexcellence.\u201d Solana\u2019s SOL token is up over 5% to $1.97 on a 24-hour basis, following a dip yesterday where the token bottomed at $1.85. <\/p>\n<p>Critics within the Ethereum community, as well as other layer-one competitors, were quick to lay into Solana\u2019s troubles on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> yesterday. <\/p>\n<p>One observer noticed that trades on Serum, the Solana-native decentralized exchange built by centralized exchange FTX, had processed few BTC trades in the hours after the interruption, implying that there was little demand for the services beyond trading \u201cbots:\u201d <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">hey! someone forgot to turn on the &#8220;real customer orders that are definitely not a bot&#8221; for serum now that solana is back up.<\/p>\n<p>No new trades in the last 2 hours?
